Le décor surtout One of the receptionists at night hits me with 21 questions if I’m staying in the hotel after I entered by card which is so obvious that I’m a guest was so annoying and disrespectful, I felt like a theft

The music concept was interesting. The rooms are quite stylish. It was clean. It was cool that it was a music space, but as far as a hostel, it didn't hit many of the notes that make a hostel a cool place to be in. A great hostel creates a cozy space of temporary community that allows for a great deal of interaction amongst the guests. The rooms were stylish but there was nothing about the hostel that created a sense of warmth and community among the guests like many hostels do. The common area for guests at Music City was a small room with a tv that closed in the evening with no other common area available. The room has cups for coffee, but the coffee is located a floor above, so in practice people just walk in for the cups, get coffee on the next floor and go about their business instead of interacting with others. Although there is a restaurant kitchen on premises, it is not available to guests, so there is no communal experience of people making food or eating food together. Also, for my entire stay the bathroom light did not work despite telling the manager on the first day of my stay. The music side of the hostel is really awesome and it shows off the great vision of the musician that owns Music City of what a music space in SF can be, but the hostel is an afterthought that doesn't seem incorporated into the vision of a hostel that nurtures a music community. Granted many guests are techies or tourists, but by creating more of a community vibe in the hostel portion of the business, they could make it more of a destination for musicians to stay as they work on their projects. It feels like a lost opportunity.

The dorms pods are comfortable mattress and very private which I liked. Friendly staff and easy check in. Good quality for the price overall. The common areas could use an update and more cleaning. Also, with no elevator and a large suitcase it was pretty intense going up and down as a little lady.

Okay, the beds themselves were quite comfortable. They're very nice. I like the blankets, and I like the pillows. That was all nice. The vibe of the hostel is also really nice. I enjoyed that. Some of the staff and the housekeeping were all very friendly and very cooperative. I asked for an iron, and they gave it to me. I needed to check out a few minutes late, and they were very reassuring and said that it's all okay and not an issue. I really, really appreciate that. I didn't stay for super long, so I couldn't say too much. What I didn't like was that the bathrooms were pretty cramped and small, and I didn't enjoy the showers too much, but that's fine if you're only going to stay here for a few days. You can definitely bear with it.

    Well connected

Travelled on my own so staying in a shared dormitory was ideal for me. Well situated with easy access all over San Francisco to the places I wanted to see. Definitely return next year.

I loved the ambience, staff, photos on the wall of music groups. I also liked that there were areas in the basement for groups to practice, drum sets and concerts. Interesting enough, I didn't hear the groups at bedtime. The staff were very helpful! I liked the free coffee, tea and almond milk. There is also a small microwave near the coffee. The location is central to buses. This is a fun place to stay. The bathrooms were often dirty. I don't blame the staff, but rather the messy residents. It was sometime hard to find an open bathroom. Please note that there are plenty of bathrooms behind the bar. I woke up early to get a hot shower.

Wonderful, kind, friendly and helpful staff, like Danny, Brian, Eden, and more; very nice and clean place; easy to get around San Francisco, near bus stops of #19, #2, #49; and short walk to Trader Joe's, CVS, and Whole Food Market.

The AWESOME STAFF AT who attend to the front desk among MANY other areas within MSH as I witnessed. I will continue to patronize MSH whenever I visit. I always look forward to seeing the smiles and feeling the positive energy that they give me. Thank each and every one of you, I truly appreciate all you do and have done to make my stays a A+++ experience in every way!!!

Amazing concept for hotel with themed Bay Area music rooms and the whole place just felt great. Shared bathrooms kept very clean. Shared bath facilities only annoying in the middle of the night. Only had big pillows too, one big and one thin would be good change.

Enjoyed my stay in the 4 bed dorm! Both front desk and cleaning staff are hardworking and friendly. No issues with cleanliness, though floors can be wet from recent showers. The ambiance is nice, however be mindful of your luggage and pack light because you have to bring them up a staircase.

Budget friendly place that is close to downtown. Didn’t realize this was also a recording studio but that was a perk! There are a couple events each week where you can meet people. If I come to San Francisco again, I’ll be back here
