Candlewood Suites Tacoma Mall by IHG

The staff front desk and manger of the front was kind friendly and helpful Very considerate. The housekeeping manager I assume knocked on the door after our late check in asking to check our room for cleaning. I explained we already unpacked. So it doesn't make sense. He seemed ok and accepted my decline. But it was weird, he also came to the door right after my husband left to finish getting somethings from the car. So the timing was weird when I was alone with the kids

The room smelled like smoke so much that I went to the local WalMart and purchased plug in fresheners. When entering and leaving the hotel, it smelled out garbage. I requested additional towels(the room only had 2 bath towel, 2 washcloths, and 2 hand towels at check in) as two of us were staying for 3 nights and did not receive them.

We were initially a little confused as to where the entrance was, but found out Candlewood Suite and Holiday Inn shared the same entrance. Check in was straightforward. The room we got had a small kitchen (stove, microwave, sink, dishwasher, fridge, even a toaster), which was so useful. It was clean overall, but we did find strands of hair on the bedding and towels. Other than that, the sound proofing was very bad, but we were tired enough to sleep through the noise from outside.

Staff was great. Unfortunately the room was SO loud…. It’s not a good sign when the room comes with earplugs.. and unfortunately they were no matched for the very loud mechanical elevator noise. It was a very poor night sleep.

I needed a quiet night off, and I definitely found the peace and downtime I was looking for here.

The floors were extremely dirty, after walking barefoot for just a few hours, the bottoms of our feet were black. On top of that, the room was absolutely not kid-safe. My kids kept bumping into side tables and coffee tables, the large industrial-style doors could have seriously injured, or could have chopped my 1-year-old’s fingers off, and there were sharp kitchen knives mixed in with the silverware in a pullout drawer that was easily accessible to children. Overall, it was an absolute nightmare.

Pet area was only accessible from the interior first floor.

Check in was at 3, we finally got keys a little before 4, after the staff said give us a few minutes to make sure the room was clean. Went to the room and someone else was still in it. Went back downstairs and told them. They provided new keys, went up and discovered the room was dirty. They did send someone up to clean the room. I did not feel safe at this location. I will not stay here again.

Room was very clean and had everything we needed.

Everything was good except pool was cold and hot tub was dirty.
