Marriott Phoenix Resort Tempe at The Buttes

I was looking for the volleyball and the sand. The internet was slow, but overall great for the top-of-the-mountain experience and the early-morning mountain climb.

Exceptional

The ice machine in the hallway was down, and I did not want to walk to the next building. Fortunately, the housekeeper on our floor was very kind and took care of that for me — she was the bright spot of our stay. Lastly, I was very concerned with my invoice. I was never told that I'd be receiving daily resort and service fees. Not to mention that the front desk charges $15 for room service without any warning, meanwhile we are tipping as well. I felt that was sneaky and unprofessional. Guests deserve full transparency on all charges at check-in.

The rooms were nice, but the grounds are tired and the A/C in the public spaces struggles to keep up with the AZ heat.

The pools and spas are exceptional. The bar-restaurant serves very good food at a fair price. The breakfast room is facing a nice indoor waterfall but the food quality was disappointing. Beds are comfortable but our AC was too loud. The price was competitive. We'll probably come back and choose an upgraded room.

I had a great time the staff was friendly and helpful. I would recommend staying here. Maybe one day I’ll be able to return for a longer stay.

Excellent stay. Clean. Quiet. Only thing missing is a less expensive option for dinner if you're not in the mood to dress up and spend for Top of the Rock (which is also excellent).

Bad

Giant living cockroach on my ceiling above the bed…it happens, ok, but taking more than 45 minutes and three calls to front desk to come remove it…not ok for this hotels price point and communicated service level goals. Also the AC in the gym barely works, it was around 90 degrees in there. I used to love this hotel 20 years ago, so was nostalgic about trying it again! But disappointed because the upkeep and service is no longer on point.
