Holiday Inn Express and Suites Alton St Louis Area by IHG

The last time I traveled somewhere that had a complimentary breakfast was at least a decade ago, so the spread here blew my mind. I would say it was worth about $40 for the three of us. The only things I could have asked for differently would be a quicker check-in process; it would be nice just to show the confirmation and get the key cards (that's a minor thing though, just me being lazy),

She thought the staff was excellent. Especially the front desk. The person who welcomed us was very courteous and helpful he treated us with respect and listened to us offering assistance if we needed it. The people who prepared the breakfast buffet kept it clean and well organized the breakfast food was good and the variety was well thought out. Room was very clean and she thought the bed was comfortable. Would definitely recommend it a place to hang your hat.

Breakfast was tasty; several hot and cold breakfast options. The bathroom was nice and clean. I think the price could have been v a little better.

Staff were great. They were very nice and attentive room was clean and well maintained and very large, not worth the price, but it was good. Not sure of the breakfast because we did not eat it but everything smelled good.

The room was very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious and the entire hotel had great central air. The pool was under construction, so I hope it will be available soon. Otherwise, it is a great hotel when visiting family.

Internet and cable was not working. Rooms were clean. Hotel store was bare of any essentials.

Filthy room. Sheets had stains. They moved us to a new room. It too wasn't clean

Stayed here to attend an event nearby. The staff are extremely kind, especially the front desk folks. However, the 4th floor had consistent issues with water flow in the toilets before even using them. The room was clean but housekeeping is only offered after you check out so be aware you will need to ask the front desk if you need towels, etc.

We didn't get a chance to find out. We booked a month in advance through Expedia and found out when we arrived that Expedia overbooked the hotel. We had to leave and find another place to stay. The only available option cost $200 more. We were never informed of the issue by Expedia. This level of service is as low as it can get.

Few small things like bathroom exhaust did not work and a light did not work as well.

I am leaving a one star review because this property charges a nightly amenities fee that is a separate charge from the room rate. According to the staff on site, this amenities fee is for breakfast, the gym, etc. (we did not use any of these services) Expedia advertises the breakfast as free. When I complained to Holiday Inn, they sent me the number for Expedia. When I called Expedia, they told me there was nothing they could do and after speaking to the hotel staff further it also covers the use of towels, housekeeping etc. According to Holiday Inn, it is their hotel policy. It’s a very small fee but I disagree with the cash grab. I am leaving this complaint based on principle that this hotel chain is overcharging. My roommate should cover amenities.
