Came back to the room after a day on Saturday to find housekeeping had not been in the room. I went to the front desk and asked why housekeeping had not been in the room and requested it be done asap. After the front desk informed me that they would not be doing it, and me asking for the manager, the front desk told me that they had no housekeeping scheduled for the Saturday shift and had not intended to provide those services that I requested and were offered when I checked in. They also did not get a manager on the phone for me to talk to. Finally, none of the ice makers were in working order and the area where they were located was dirty.

Breakfast was not maintained throughout the 3 hour availablity (tables not cleaned, food not replenished). No knives day one in the dispenser and no knives or spoons in the dispenser day two. Bed and Bathroom were clean, but there were spills/stains on walls. Hall carpets were unvacuumed. Gum spot on the bedroom floor. You get what you pay for, but I have stayed in Country Inn and Suites elsewhere that were very nice.

Five stars, because I’m genuinely amazed by this experience. We stayed during an Iowa State game weekend and paid roughly $350 per night. Fine by me. Supply and demand. Charge what the market will bear. What’s impressive is pairing premium pricing with the absolute minimum amount of effort possible. A room that achieved “barely clean enough.” An elevator loud enough to announce every trip. HVAC that provided plenty of noise and occasional temperature control. Breakfast items that seemed as disengaged as the hotel itself. And they ran out of coffee. At breakfast. That was admirable. If there is one thing a hotel should accomplish before 9 a.m., I would have guessed “have coffee.” Apparently I expect too much. Then there’s the signage: wipe your feet, do this, don’t do that, follow this rule. Nice touch. Very classy. There’s something wonderfully efficient about putting more effort into telling guests how to behave than into serving them. The whole stay left us wondering whether anyone actually works here, or whether the building simply operates on residual momentum. So bravo. Maximum game-weekend pricing. Minimum staffing. Minimum service. Minimum amenities. Minimum effort. Maximum instructions. And really, I got what I deserved. I booked it. Country Inn & Suites: you have successfully made your brand unforgettable to me. “Wow, they really tried,” said no one. Ever.

Stayed here for a visit to our son at ISU. Room was clean, staff was friendly and the breakfast was as expected. Would stay here again.

I had to make last minute plans to stay in Ames for one night and chose to use Expedia and book the Country Inn and Suites in Ames, IA. I was booking the hotel for that same night (same day as the reservation). When I got the confirmation via email a view minutes later I realized I picked the wrong day by mistake. I immediately tried to fix the mistake (within 30 minutes of the original reservation). I couldn't do it through Expedia as it was non-cancelable. I booked a net new reservation for that night through Expedia. So now I had 2 reservations. I reached Expedia customer service line and they said they couldn't cancel or refund. When I got to the hotel they told me they could cancel the bad reservation and that I should be good. A week later, no credit had been given. I called Country Inn and Suites and asked what was going on. Sandy at Country Inn and Suites said the room had been cancelled and I should be good. I then call Expedia to ask when a credit should arrive. Expedia customer service called Sandy and she told them that she would could not waive the fee due to the type of booking even though I tried to change it within 15 minutes after catching my error. I will be trying to fight this bill through my credit card company and will not do business with Expedia or Country Inn and Suites again. I can't believe they won't provide a refund due to a bad booking due to a typo that I attempted to correct within 15 minutes. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE.

Property does not seem to be kept up as well as our previous stays.

The room was spacious (king suite), but no extra blankets, ice machines broken, and overall very outdated. Seems the owners are cutting corners, and it shows. Luckily, we were there only to sleep.

The property was very worn (dirty carpets and furniture and there was a lot of plaster patching in the ceilings indicating leaking). Breakfast was interesting - only meat, but no eggs. I would definitely not stay at this hotel again.

I ended up extending my stay twice and was seamlessly kept in the same room. The room was very clean and up-to-date. The breakfast was solid, rotating scrambled eggs, omelettes, sausages, bacon… and having waffles, granola bars, fruit… available all days. There’s also an indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi that’s open all year round, a significant perk in this winter climate. Ames is a college town with lots of hotel choices. Many are very nice and I would put this property among the very top options. It’s conveniently located near I-35 and Highway 30, a quick drive to the Iowa State campus and maybe more importantly, Hickory Park restaurant. If you’ve been to Ames, you know what I’m talking about. There is also a nice Mexican restaurant, an Olive Garden and a pancake house in the immediate vicinity. Many other stores and restaurants are five minutes away on Duff Avenue. And did I mention they have fresh baked cookies in the lobby?

The hotel room itself was very dirty. It had never been cleaned. They came in to clean it while we went to supper. Vacuumed, fridge and microwave clean and dusted. Also cleaned the bathroom. Beds were already made with clean bedding. It was very weird. Staff at check in and staff that day were very nice and apologetic. Unfortunately, will never stay there again!

Our floor smelled like pot really bad , Heard a dog barking non stop. Asked for tissues they came into room when we were not there and left them on the tv. The staff used our bathroom and glogged it had to get a different room. the new room was much better but a hassle moving after being settled . Pool was nice the chairs outside were nice to sit at.

It was ok but the beds are not comfortable and the room had an “odor”

Smells bad through out. Stains on mattress cover under the sheet. Breakfast was lacking. Waffle machine did not work and options were basically oranges, cereal, and toast. There were small biscuits and gravry but they were not good. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful though.
