Aloft by Marriott Birmingham Soho Square

This property tries to be nice with a little smoke and mirrors. Good design, but low grade materials of build quality throughout property. Shower leaked onto floor as door wouldn't close. Toilet paper holder broken. Low quality TV system/channels. Poor shades/drapes, and just overall worn out condition of walls and flooring. Cafe/marketplace was skimpy but has a few items for munchies. For 30% less nightly rate, it would be just fine. But for this pricepoint...the standard is higher than this property delivers.

The location of this hotel is fantastic. It’s clean and the staff are especially wonderful and friendly. The rooms (and bathrooms especially feel dark) and the past couple times we have stayed there have been things like a missing handle on a bathroom door, a bathroom door that didn’t close. This time we were put into a handicap room and the shower spray absolutely saturated the entire bathroom floor due to an inadequate curtain and lower water retention pan. I almost hate to leave a less than stellar review because the staff are truly so wonderful, and the location is so great but the bathrooms are so poorly lit and we have just had random oddities w the maintenance of the spaces that have felt frustrating.

Service was slow, likely due to understafffing, but the hotel was clean and in a great location. The bartender was a gem, and there's a noodle and dumpling restaurant attached that was great. Overall a positive experience and I would stay here again.

Rooms are large and clean

The front desk staff were incredible! Ms. Virginia and also the male staff worker up front greeted me every morning and offered the best donuts for my commute! They were wonderful and a great stay!

This is a good option for a night or two in Birmingham.

The staff was so helpful. We arrived and we had t been assigned a room and they were out of 2 queen rooms. So they gave us 2 Kings for the same price. They were wonderful about it!

Its location was great for the activities we were attending. It was clean as well. It lost power in the storm and they didn’t have a backup generator which was terrible. Having to walk up and down the stairs and the toilet was gurgling splashing on the floor during the storm. Never seen anything like that before.

We have stayed here several times in the past ten years. Very convenient for all that Homewood has to offer in dining and shopping. The hotel is looking worn. Needs new carpet at least. Time up upgrade the sheets.

My air conditioner in my room was noisy

I booked this hotel based off of it being considered a 4-star hotel. It is not. The hotel was ok, but older and not in the greatest condition overall.

Clean rooms and friendly staff. Lacking on breakfast.

Continental breakfast was the biggest joke I have ever seen! Frozen glazed donuts! You should be ashamed of yourself!

Breakfast was only some donuts under a glass but there seemed to be a menu for purchase but no one manning the counter. We parked on the street and saved. Homewood central areas had nice restos and brekky and coffee AC was exposed and loud like in a motel - didn't fit the style of the hotel. Ironing board was jacked and broken. Staff should notice and just replace it.

Everything was great the staff was great and friendly we will return again

Just the rooms need updating The shades didn’t work no phone in the room to call front desk.

Hair in my fridge and on bed. Air not working well. Yogurt expired.

The pool table and such were a great touch
