Residence Inn by Marriott Birmingham Downtown at UAB

The entire facility is showing its age. Doors to the rooms are out of alignment. A constant noise of guests forcing (slamming) doors to close. We had to put our shoulder and push to get the door to open and close. Toliet leaked water constantly on bathroom floor. Asked maintenance to do a repair but was given a number of excuses. We were there five days and four nights, it was never fixed. Carpet was the filthest I've encountered in a hotel. Carpet was severely stained. Breakfast area is very small for such a large hotel. With alot of guests at one time it's impossible to maneuver to get food. We were supposed to have our room refreshed every third day, it never happened. Had to empty our trash cans our self and put it in the hallway. When they held charges on our credit card they ran double charges. They held $1600.00 dollars for a $750.00 dollar bill. This hotel has to many inconsistencies.

We had to fast track and adapt our plans to meet our 5pm obligation because of your delay. The room in 411 was quite large, but obviously aged and awkward. The lack of lighting made reading difficult on the couch. Broken, leaking, and clogged plumbing often required finesse to operate. We had to adjust the table leg of the dining table to prevent it from tipping over. The hole in the ceiling directly above the table and rusty bathtub added to the aged appearance. TVs were oddly mounted in corners, making them visible in only part of the room. One of the glass cabinet doors, if opened more than a few inches to retrieve a bowl inside, would bang into the stove hood and possibly break. What appeared to be clear caulk was piled on the cabinet top next to the sink, which I didn't see until I set a coffee cup in it. We had to pry the cup off the counter. We covered it with a paper towel to make sure that didn't happen again. Don't expect us back.

The property is very impressive and has every amenity. The staff is warm, friendly and professional. We were here with family members who chose to stay at another property, another hotel chain, (first letter is S). This hotel had no microwave, fridge, and certainly not a fireplace, separate living room and bathroom, and very secure. No access to upper floors without a key. This is one of the best Residence Inns we have visited.

My room was not fully clean. Hair in the tub and bad patch above the shower. The pillowcase was not clean. We stay all the time just our room was not clean this time.

My husband and I checked in for one night, while driving down to the beach. There seemed to be a lot of confusion with other guests rooms and some disorganization as well as rooms not cleaned yet. It was around 7 pm when we checked in and the staff had to go make sure the rooms were cleaned before giving them out. When booking I was told parking was included however I was charged $25 to park. The breakfast was not that good and not much to offer. However the hotel was quiet, the room was clean and temperature was good!

The room was nice and in a good location. The hotel was quiet. The parking lot is small but we didn’t have any issues finding a parking spot. Ladarius at the front desk is an absolute gem! We really enjoyed our stay in Birmingham and plan to return soon.

This was a great stay. We had a wedding in town and brought our 2 dogs with us. The place was clean, staff were friendly, and our room was great.

Breakfast area is a little tight with the crowd. But overall, 10/10.
