Sonesta ES Suites Birmingham Homewood

We made our reservation in advance and when we arrived for check-in around 7pm we were told our reservation had been cancelled due to my card not going through. I immediately called the bank and was told there was no record of a declined transaction to Sonesta ES Homewood hotel. Imagine getting in from a long day of walking around on campus at UAB for your child’s orientation with 97 degree weather and be told you no longer have a room. The same thing happened to the couple in line in front of us. Totally unprofessional!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hotel could use some updating. Hallway smells like old smoke.

I would stay here every time I'm in the area. Love everything about it. I highly recommend that 10/10

Room was spacious and well laid out. Everything was comfortable. Staff was pleasant. I just wish there was a luggage rack to place my suitcase on instead of the floor.

Our room was open when we got to it. The door would only close with force. I went to the front desk and was told there were no more rooms and maintenance would be called. Maintenance came and said the part for the door has been ordered and there is nothing that can be done. The room has a strong cleaner smell that was not pleasant. Our Netflix did not work on the TV and the front desk said maintenance would come to look at it. Well maintenance never showed up! Won’t be staying there again!!

blood was on the bathroom door, the comforter on the bed was dirty, so we decided to sleep on the sofa bed, but there was no sheets, just a pillow and pillow case inside a bag in the closet. the phone in the room doesn't work, No sound no dial tone no NOTHING!!!! front desk doesn't answer when you call, just a horrible experience. the stove as dirty, the phone had brown residue built up on the numbers, ..SAD

The room was essentially like a studio apartment. It was a great space for my travel needs.

The photos of the hotel were very misleading! Our room was not what I expected. The carpet was so stained and walls dirty. Our toilet had to be snaked because of a small bit of toilet paper because they have the water saving toilets and was not working properly. The covering on the bed was paper thin! the first night we had scalding hot water and the second no hot water at all. The other family that we traveled with found bed bugs! Proceed with caution!

I love the two bedroom suites! We can stay all together and have privacy. The kitchen is a wonderful thing for a family to have.

The front desk clerk was not very helpful or informative. He was also nonchalant about a repair that was needed in the room. Maintenance was never scheduled. The housekeeper prior to our arrival didn’t properly stock or refresh the room (the hallway smelled nice, our room smelled like dust). The couch was sunken in in the center and the second dining table chair was missing. The only good thing was the room size.

Found the shower curtain not properly secured and was falling down and no way can take proper shower. Wish to upload pics. No too happy with the stays.

Clean property

This was my first time booking in Birmingham and I used google review to book this room. I was absolutely shocked that the reviews on this hotel were so high. Although the outside of the property was well maintained, the inside was horribly disappointing. The suite we stayed in was old, dirty and smelled musty. Had this been a refundable booking, we would definitely have not stayed. The walls were dirty. The alarm clock had disgusting grime on the chord. The carpet was almost sticky feeling; we walked around in our shoes the entire time. The furniture was old and smelled old. The inside of the cabinets and drawers were terribly filthy. Absolutely distrusting room. We will not be back and regret this affecting our stay in Birmingham.

I would definitely stay here again while visiting family in Birmingham. The front desk people were always great. Jen was super nice to me all the time. Breakfast was fine in the morning. Room was clean and comfortable. Thanks again to Jen and the friendly staff.

Be careful when reserving through third party, ie-Hotels.com. Reserved and prepaid for a room through Hotels.com. Website said there were 8 rooms left at hotel. During check in, we were told that only rooms available were upgrades to suite at a higher cost. When we asked about the discrepancy between the hotel site and check in rate, we were told Hotel.com was wrong about available rooms. We were on the verge of calling the Hotel.com about the situation, when the manager decided to honor the original prepaid amount. We were thankful the hotel honored our agreement.

Breakfast could use some help. I appreciate there's food though. Staff was very accommodating. Jen was very helpful working at the front desk. Thank you Jen.
