The Box House Hotel

Our room wasn’t ready at 4:30 despite having a check in time of 3pm. We were part of a wedding party and we did not receive the welcome bag left for us by the bride.

Nothing about the hotel really stood out for me. The location was good, a 10 minute walk to the metro and 5 minutes from there to Manhattan. A 15 minute walk to the waterfront area around the old Long Island Ferry pier which was nice. Down the road is a very good "organic" convenience store that has all you need. Room service kept removing towels each day without replacing them. I started with 3 towels, 2 face clothes and a floor towel and on my last day only had one towel. Breakfast was the same each day, with the exception of a very good fruit platter it was very similar to what you would get at any 3* hotel.

Quirky, interesting decor, welcoming staff, very clean common areas and room. Our room was on the first floor in the back, very near the in-house housekeeping headquarters. This meant a lot of activity, and also unfortunately some unnecessary noise from communications between the staff. That’s as expected except in the evenings it was not ideal. Also, the room was spacious, but having the bathroom on a different floor from the bed was not great during the night when you wake a few times. Simple things that would make the stay a 10: provide better quality TP, a nightstand on both sides of the bed, soap in the kitchen, a toaster with more than 2 slots in the dining room.

My superior room was spacious with a balcony and a separate window. A good supermarket and deli a block away and a good choice of restaurants on nearby Manhattan Avenue. Considering that hotel rooms were scarce due to the UN General Assembly being in session, the price of the room was fair. 60 flights of stairs to the Pulaski bridge for access to the number 7 subway station to midtown Manhattan at the other end of the bridge.

We liked the breakfast. And the fact they allowed us to keep our bags in the hotel when we checked out. Started off with offering free airport shuttle with booking which they then withdrew, that was $80 from Jfk one way - fyi. Staff could be more helpful, we never told where things where nor when breakfast was served or where. Bed and pillows below standard, hardly slept RM217. I wouldn't stay there if I was a single woman hoping to go into Manhattan.

The staff was so friendly and helpful! The breakfast was great! Love the eggs, fruit and pastries! The room was comfortable and clean with a great city view from the balcony! It was a great location, very walkable to restaurants, parks, and shops The price!

Beautiful property. But I wasn’t crazy about the location.

Really charming hotel. The room was a decent size compared to most NYC hotels, the staff was friendly and helpful, and we had great views of the skyline from our balcony. Would stay again. Wish it was a bit closer to a subway station, but it wasn’t too much of a challenge.
