On the first night we were above the kitchen back entrance and at 4:30 we were awakened with the shuffling of dishes and racks, it was very noisy. We were fortunately able to move rooms for our second night there, the staff was amazing and understanding.

The building itself is very old and it doesn't appear that the rooms have been updated in some time. However, if you can score a good rate, it's a great value.

Parking worked out fine

Would recommend checking that you have extra rolls of toilet paper and knowing to ask the front desk for ice as there is not a mini0fridge for your wines and cheeses, nor an ice machine. And Il Fornaio is not worth going to when you have so many other options in Carmel. It's quite generic. But the rest is wonderful. Enjoy your stay!

Beautiful lobby at a historic hotel. However, sensible moderations (e.g. bathroom, more outlets and firmer mattress) would enhance the balance of staying at a heritage hotel. The location was great, walking distance to everything.

A very cool property in an awesome city. The place was kind of like a maze when we first showed up but we quickly got the hang of it. Rooms have a vintage feel but were clean. Overall a really cool trip!!

Beautiful room and property. Fantastic location.

Beautiful property convenient to dining, shopping and other amenities. Safe town and quiet.

Lovely hotel. Very good location to shops and places to eat. A 10 minute walk to the beautiful beach. Convenient parking included.

Great location. Quirky parking. Friendly staff.

It’s in a nice location surrounded by small shops and restaurants. It’s only a 10 minute walk to the beach, which is nice. The staff was lovely! They only give one car permit per room. The parking lot is extremely small and you can’t always find parking. I drove around for 30 minutes trying to find parking even though I was staying in the hotel. The room is very small, so was the bed.

Very disappointing experience. The hotel is the epitome of “lipstick on a plg”. At first glance it looks opulent but in reality it’s aged and tattered with creaky floors, chipped furniture and supposed precious “antiques”. The room cleaning was really horrible but the worst was the ridiculous policy of “ absolutely no food or drink” in the lobby. So you can’t enjoy a morning cup of coffee.. ( they don’t even offer it!! ) you can’t sit and have a bottle of water. We were reprimanded line school children for sitting on a side room having a cup of coffee/ that we had to walk down the street to get. The bellmen use the lobby as their break room so they are sitting around all the time.. it’s just not up to par. Will never stay again….

The jacuzzi function was also broken, which was sad. On top of that, the room we were given looked very different from the photos on Expedia: very dark, facing the courtyard, with little privacy, and the shade had to be closed all the time, so it was very dark... Overall, pretty sad stay there.

Two down falls…no elevator…stairs fairly steep…too much for anyone with knee problems…and terrible parking…first come first serve…had to drive around for 30 minutes until a spot came available…nostalgic setting…antique furniture…super nice, comfortable bed…beautiful lobby…very inviting with a fireplace…excellent Italian restaurant connected to the hotel…Andy, the manager, was wonderful…very personable…delicious entrees and fabulous desserts!!

Great location in Carmel.

Excellent location in the heart of Carmel by the Sea
-
Location Old and outdated, musty and moldy smell in the room and closet. Uncomfortable bed. Room and bathroom was so small and cramped. No air conditioning and room gets extremely warm. Also window opens to the street where cigarette smoke from the staff or workers across the street blows in all night along with a 7am wake up for the garbage/food delivery trucks right outside the window. There are better options I promise you!

Rooms very tiny, tub was peeling, water for shower was lukewarm, remote was finicky even after having staff replace batteries. The lobby is very nice, but your room won't match.
-
Location was excellent Rooms are small

Great location. No elevator, so carrying bags up flights is not pleasant. Nice sized parking lot. Did hear some early morning noise coming from windows. No mini frig or microwave. Pay for the beach view rooms. They are roomier. Did not get a chance to try out restaurant.
