Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Chattanooga Downtown by IHG

We have traveled to this area many times for Ironman. The location was downtown however if you wanted to go riverfront you need to drive it’s walkable but not easy for everyone Unfortunately, our stay was very disappointing. The shower curtain was too short, causing water to flood the bathroom and spill into the hallway. The mattress on the pull-out couch was thin, worn out, and stained, making it uncomfortable to sleep on. The road next to the hotel sounded like a drag strip, with loud exhaust noise throughout the night and at all hours, making it difficult to get any rest. To make matters worse, on the morning of checkout, after all of us were exhausted from the race, housekeeping showed up before 9 a.m. to clean the room, adding to an already frustrating experience. Overall, the lack of comfort, excessive noise, and poor timing of housekeeping made this a disappointing stay. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and restful experience. Parking was an additional charge of a $14 daily fee just to park in a standard parking lot. According to the hotel's information, the aquarium and art museum are within walking distance. However, that description is misleading unless you consider walking a couple of miles each way to be convenient.

Downtown location is good and close to interstate. All staff I interacted with were very friendly and helpful. The property has serous odor problem starting from the parking lot to the room. The staff informed me that city’s sewer treatment plant and chicken processing plant are the reason for the smell. The hotter the weather, the more the smell. And we stayed on a very hot day. 5th floor hallway had a different bad odor. Our room floor carpet had stains and it felt damp. We stayed for one night and it was not enjoyable.

The facilities were good. Things happened that made my wife and I very uncomfortable and staff on site did not take seriously. No refund but had to change hotels. Did not feel safe.

The suites are comfortable and clean. We had an issue with the power bank on the desk but the staff moved us to a different room. The location is very convenient to downtown and to getting on the interstate.

There was no coffee maker in the room, but we could easily sign one out at the front desk. We didn’t use the microwave, but it was one of those standard hotel-type models. The minifridge had no freezer section, but that was fine. We did find it started to freeze some things so we found the knob at the back to adjust the coldness setting. Then it was perfect. The breakfast was fine. The fresh cinnamon rolls seemed to be quite the hit! The coffee was not great but it was one of those machines that makes it right there so it’s fresh. I brought some instant sticks and added 1-2 to make it a little stronger. The parking lot was easy enough to get into and out of. Larger vehicles may want to park nearer to the back as the spots can be narrow. The hotel is located perfectly between downtown and any other major attractions. It’s within walking distance or a short drive to downtown. It’s a short drive to everywhere else and easy to navigate wherever you’re going. The City Cafe Diner, Scottie’s, and Urban Stack serve up some good food. Calvary Chapel was great to visit. Ruby Falls, Rock City, The ChooChoo, trolley rides, the Aquarium, Coker museum, and TVRM train rides are all recommended.

The room was clean and small for two queen beds. I loved the large picture window. Staff was helpful. The breakfast wasn't the greatest, but there breakfast. The a/c and parking were the worst during my trip. The a/c wouldn't go lower than 66 and felt like it was over 76. Having to pay for onsite parking was just ridiculous, especially since there were signs posted everywhere indicating parking there was at our own risk. So we're paying to leave our vehicle at the hotel we're staying in but it's s not safe, guarded, or secure? That's crazy. Last but not least, the pool was tiny clean but very cold which took away from what should have been a pleasant experience. We stayed here because we were attending an event nearby. However we quickly found out the walk would not be feasible as we would have to cross a series of entrance and exit ramps off a major highway. So I don't recommend this hotel for walkability.

The ladies at the front desk were friendly and competent. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean.

The room was clean but the interior has a worn look. The only other thing is the safe was locked so we couldn't use it. And the tub was backing up.
