With this location and natural beauty of this cliff in Dana Point, this could potentially be a great hotel/resort. However the Laguna Cliffs Marriott is barely a Marriott. Old building, passable rooms, below par cleanliness and staff were unhelpful at best. Sorry to break the news, this establishment cannot be a Marriott: 1. In room dining ends at 10pm, 2. Many rooms overlook a street, nothing pretty to see there + the noise 3. Small fridge, no microwave 4. Balcony furniture is plastic, not even decent wood. 5. The main lawn is closed to landscaping & revamping 6. Hidden & Extra resort fees / taxes amounting to the rate of almost 2 extra nights in top of what was prepaid with Expedia 7. They are pretending they are changing some landscaping to turn into a “JW Marriott” but the rooms and services would probably need a major upgrade as well. // only positive shoutout is to their breakfast buffet staff who were professional and courteous. However; I’m Very unfortunate to have stayed at that resort and would not return unless the major issues above are deeply addressed & resolved as per other future reviews

Staying there again, not likely.

even though the property was under construction, the staff did an excellent job! although, i didn't expect to be paying an additional 300 for an upgraded room did not get. they promised a pool view at booking and had me over construction site, then i paid for upgraded pool view, and they still had me at a separate half construction half Oceanview room. i was not informed this would be the case. i only received one day credit. it would have been nice to receive credit for both days stay.

Unfortunately our stay was not great. The hotel is under construction with no mention of this on the website. Half of the hotel is closed, along with the adult pool, bar and lobby. The parking was always crowded and the valet broke our rental key fob. The pool was way over crowded, our room never got cleaned, not enough towels, our “resort view” overlooked their makeshift restaurant, pickle ball court and parking deck. The staff at the front desk were hard to understand. I would never come here again. Not worth your money. Such a bummer. Shame on Marriott for not advertising that this hotel is under construction.

Property was under construction.

We had a great time, rooms were clean but our balcony door was super hard to close. Other than that, location was great and the property was clean.

Overall nice hotel on a cliff. At the time we were there, some of it was covered due to construction. For the price we paid I didn't expect I will be facing a construction site. We had to go around it to get to out destination points. A little overprice.

Nice place. Super uncomfortable beds. Very firm. Didn't sleep both nights.

Hotel was under construction at our time of stay, we were not made aware at time of booking. Only 1 overpacked small pool with no chairs available. Lobby is practically non existent. Not an experience we were expecting from a resort. Local beach was far, no hotel transport, overcrowded and water was dirty with garbage. Overall the area is overhyped. We took no photos of anything as there was nothing impressive. Will not be visiting again when in California.

The hotel has major construction 6 days a week. It's loud and dangerous. The experience is not as advertised - not even close to relaxing; and not all amenities are available. Failure to disclose is unethical.

I was not made aware prior to booking that the hotel was under construction. There was no adult pool. I had planned a romantic weekend away with my boyfriend and I ended up next to the bumping music of the kitty pool at 9 AM with the splash zone and Art center under my window. I booked a Harborview room, but that side of the hotel was under construction. It was a disaster and the food at the restaurant was mediocre at best.

The hotel is going under major renovation and remodeling the management. Staff are super friendly and they’re going way beyond to accommodate people who are not happy with their rooms due to the remodeling of the pool and other front area by the ocean view part of the hotel is blocked off!

For what they are charging they should be ashamed. This is a 2 star hotel at best. Avoid avoid avoid.

The people who helped with the luggage and worked at pool bars were great

The room was great. Only regret was the third floor had no balcony. Food, staff and pool were fabulous. Several staff went out of the their way to help when we asked a question. Will be back.
