Nostalgique and perfect location

First, if you're staying here, it's because it's a gorgeous, old mansion and that appeals to you. The amenities are not the same as a Hilton, but this place has other advantages. The current owner, Robert, is a great host who will make sure you feel welcome and at home. I stayed during the time of the "heat dome". My room had a window AC unit that kept the room comfortable. I was traveling alone and had sufficient room for my luggage, but each room is different in size. That's how these places are unique compared to a cookie-cutter hotel. The furniture is antique but did have some modern amenities like TVs with streaming capabilities and coffee in the room. The bed was as comfortable as any in the chain hotels. The bathroom was small but adequate: good shower etc. The breakfast included a hot entre as well as choices of pastries, fruit, cereals etc. And unlike the bland breakfast rooms of the hotel chains, this breakfast is served by a gracious host in a Victorian dining room that is absolutely stunning. The location is also great as it's right downtown and there's a friendly pub just across the street. I would stay there again.

Super fun stay especially if you like historic buildings with a story. Breakfast was great!

This gorgeous old property, once a shining star has seen better days. There is no exterior signage to let guests know they've arrived at the destination. I would say this property has seen better days.

Unique, older facility. Clean and comfortable. Robert and his wife were good hosts. Served a very nice healthy breakfast.

Loved the architecture. The host was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great. Location was perfect for the concert we went too. Within walking distance of the farmers market if you are going on a weekend. Will definitely stay again

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights while celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. We loved the idea of staying at a unique property and were not disappointed. Robert, the innkeeper and owner, was excellent and provided a nice breakfast for us, as well as, history about the mansion and Dubuque Iowa in general. While the property does exhibit it's age, it's character was everything we had hoped for. We also loved that the location was central to the downtown area and many businesses were within walking distance. We will surely stay here again when we are in the Dubuque area.

Charming place to stay.

The decor was nice and home. Abe the establishment was very clean.
-
Beautiful property that has been neglected. Owner seemed more interested in selling it. We left early (stayed only 1 of 2 nights).

Exceptional
-
Loved the charm and history of the home. Breakfast was ample and the owner was friendly. Owner seems to be struggling with upkeep and the property is for sale.
-
Rooms have imperfections but the charm, staff and breakfast surpass it all. We will be back.

Robert was an amazing host. This is a beautiful very old building. It had a lot of character. It could use some restoration. But would highly recommend staying at Robert’s place
