Harbor House Hotel and Marina at Pier 21

The room was clean but breakfast wasn’t the best and had limited options. The parking lot was under construction and was hard to find how to access the parking lot for the hotel. We were unaware of it beforehand, and had to navigate construction in the rain. Was told the hotel shuttle would take us to the cruise terminal, which they did, but was told it was a 2 mile drive, when it was closer to a .7 mile drive using the access roads between properties. We were told at check in, after booking the shuttle, that when getting off the cruise, it would take at least 1.5 hours to get to our cars due to the shuttle assisting a few hotels. Again, this was not disclosed at the time of booking. Due to the long wait for the shuttle van upon returning, we had to get an uber to pick up our cars. We were not happy to see we could have walked. The entire experience, including the hotel stay and breakfast, plus the shuttle, felt expensive for the value offered.

The hotel was wonderful. It is located right next to the cruise ship pier and shopping/restaurants. The hotel was immaculately clean, rooms were spacious, and Dee at reception welcomed us with a big warm smile. We will absolutely stay at this hotel again!

Areas for improvement: the bathroom sink was not very user-friendly, also the the hot water to the shower was just warm…despite being turned all the up. The breakfast offered on the second room floor was just OK. The grab and go options were above average the hot items specifically the pancakes were awful. We ended up going to Starbucks on the second morning. Overall, we would stay here again because of the location.

Upon arrival, construction made it difficult to find the parking lot. We had to call for instructions. Check-in was fine but not personable. We asked for a restaurant recommendation, and the clerk seemed hesitant to suggest anything. The check-in area smelled old and dirty though it didn’t look old and dirty. Our room smelled like dogs and was definitely in need of a deep clean. The toiletries were very minimal and there was no holder for the soap so it had to sit directly on the counter. The bathroom also had no ventilation and fogged up without any water running just due to the door being closed. This also led to the bath towels feeling damp. There is also an opaque window that separates the bathroom from the bedroom. This makes sharing a room difficult. If someone turns on the bathroom light, it lights up the entire hotel room. The “breakfast available” seemed to be a small room with a vending machine with yogurts and breakfast items.

Rooms/Property were clean and well maintained. Great location for our quick one night stay. Only complaint was the guy at the front desk that evening was less and friendly and helpful. Others we dealt with were great though. Definitely recommend.

If you ever plan to take a cruise out of Galveston, Texas, I highly recommend staying at the Habor House and Marina at Pier 21 in Galveston, Texas.

Bathroom space and functionality is very limited. The desk clerk asked us if we were getting on a cruise. When we told him yes, he said we couldn’t walk to the port, no sidewalks, had to take an Uber. We decided to test that out. We found it less than a 15 minute walk and nice wide sidewalks. Wonder if he was an uber driver on his off shift or taking a cut from a friend that was an Uber driver.

The hotel was beautiful and has a very accommodating location for cruise travelers. However, my chief complaint is that there were crumbs of some sort under the comforter and on the sheet. Was not thrilled about that. And the fact there wasn’t a fitted sheet on the bed. Only flat sheet tucked in so when the covers were pulled back, I mistakenly unmade the bed down to the mattress cover. Overall, it was convenient since we were leaving for a cruise the next morning. Would not have done a longer stay especially for the price and condition of the bed.

High humidity outside with the lack of bathroom vent fan made for a damp feeling room (especially the sheets). Overall could have been cleaner. Staff was very nice. There was ongoing construction directly in front of the hotel.

Travis at the front desk is always helpful. The location is perfect for pre/post cruising, sightseeing, and walking the Strand.

Our stay was incredible we will definitely stay again
