Red Roof Inn Plus Galveston - Beachfront

We had to remind them that we booked an accessible room, because they kept trying to put us on the second floor. And while the room we ended up in was on the first floor and had a shower seat there was no pull bars near the toilet which was a challenge. My husband shouldn't have to argue to be given the room that we booked. Parking was fine but we didnt come and go during the peak busy hours. The floors were gritty which I can forgive because we were so close to the beach but there was also a long black hair in one of the bedsheets. The pillows were incredibly soft which gave no support. Also though only 3 pillows per queen bed was strange.

We got to the property and were told the room was not available. The man on duty says well I can cancel your reservation and you can go somewhere else. This was 4th of July weekend on Galveston Island. Not many choices at this point. Do better!!

The mananger at the front desk was incredibly kind and friendly. Unfortunately the property could use some TLC. Honestly, I’m not sure how it got such high reviews—maybe low expectations since it’s a red roof? I chose it over the brand I typically go to since their reviews for the Galveston location were much lower. It was OK to sleep here for one night before a cruise, close to the beach, but the photos were deceiving and I would have been disappointed if I were vacationing here. The rooms look like they had been updated with LVP floor and minimalist design at some point so that was nice. But they are outside entry. The elevator had an awful odor and the outside areas were just OK. Inside my room the desk chair was shredding apart. I would have been ok with that but then found there were some left behind hairs on my bed and my bath towel and around the bathroom. There are no hand towels, washcloth, or floor towel. And if you use the pool, you must use your two room towels. I did ask for a replacement for the dirty towel, was told to bring it to them to get a replacement and was able to get an extra towel then. The pool was small but clean. The two staff people that I interacted with were really very friendly and willing to help, but this place was disappointing after reading great reviews. Bummer.

I booked an accessible room, called last week to verify it had a roll in shower. Upon arrival I was told, nope. It has a tub. And they’d cancel my room if i wanted to go find some place else. On top of that, there were no hand towels or wash cloths in the room. I’d never stay here again

The building needs some work. The shower needed some maintenance done. The wall plugs were loose and when you tried to plug or unplug anything it was risky. The A/C worked pretty well you could not adjust the settings though. The beds were not too bad. Over all it was okay. The staff had no problem giving towels or anything like that.

It was a very relaxing atmosphere. Great location. We loved it.

The bed was extremely uncomfortable

I was worried before we arrived after reading reviews on roaches and it being unsafe and dirty. Our room had an ocean view and was clean & nice. We had a few small ants on the last day, but we could have brought those in on from the beach or pool. My only bug complaint was the flies, they were TERRIBLE in the room. The property itself, I never felt unsafe, but they could do more to keep it clean. The trash smelt terrible, because it was not taken out frequently. I never saw any roaches until the last morning and they were outside near the trash cans. It was hard to get enough towels for 4 people to shower after the beach, because there is no good place to hang the towels to dry to reuse. No place to hang wet suits or clothes to dry either. Each time we asked for a new towel, we were told they were still washing them to try back later. Luckily we brought beach towels so we were using those to shower when we couldn't get new ones. Although we had a ocean view (only probably 2 rooms do) I wouldn't really say this hotel is beachfront, because the condos in front of it beach front. It was in a very good location though and just around the corner and a short walk to the beach. The staff was friendly and was available anytime we went in. Check in was easy and quick and we had 2 reservations because we decided to come a day early and they made sure we were able to stay in the same room without packing up and moving. The pool was clean and the water was cool. I would stay here again.

The floor in our room needed cleaned. There was tore up molding around the inside of the bathroom door from someone's pet clawing at it. On a lighter note the staff was friendly which is refreshing and the air conditioning worked well.

ROACHES IN THE ROOM

The room had roaches and wasn't clean. The towels smelled like smoke, bugs was all in the room due to the door not being leveled. Don't go there

It was close to the beach and very clean. The rooms were big. I wish there was a wash off station since it is so close to the beach. We got our room quite sandy coming in from the beach every day.
