SpringHill Suites by Marriott Cleveland Independence

Everything was not good

Hotel is very old and worn. Complete disappointment. This is my second bad experience with a Springhill Suites. The last one in Kentucky had bugs and worms crawling on the trundlebed sheets. I will not book a Springhill again.

I chose this Marriott because of the Marriott reputation being great but to my surprise I stayed at this hotel in Cleveland Ohio for 4 nights and 5 days and housekeeping did not clean my room once. I called the front desk to inquire about it and they said they only clean the rooms every other day. Even with that, they didn’t come at all. Unheard of if you ask me.

Mold, mildew, and rust everywhere. Rooms smell like mold to the point where it's almost unbearable. Brand new desk lamps are already covered in rust from too much moisture, electrical outlets are covered in white mold spots, bathrooms have black mold spots throughout. Sheets have stains everywhere. There is so much moisture in the air, the wallpaper is falling off throughout the entire hotel, and in the hallways much of it is being held up with tape... Stains all over the countertops of the rooms, carpets are disgusting. The staff was very nice, though. Our first room smelled of mold and was so unbearable, we had to change rooms. The second room only smelled a little, but the shower was so clogged we couldn't even use it and had to change rooms AGAIN. The staff was accommodating the entire time, so that made it at least bearable for us.

My outlets kept going out. The fridge and microwave didn’t work.

Let’s get the PROS addressed first: Very convenient location Newer property Decent sized room Comfy bed Efficient check-in/check-out TheCONS: We entered the room to find that several lights were not functioning (main lights in sitting area had burnt bulbs and the overnight light in the shower was flickering). I picked up the room phone to call the lobby and the phone itself also wasn’t working, so I had to go back down to let someone know. I informed both a member of housekeeping in the hallway as well as the front lobby staff who were both friendly and told me these issues would be addressed. They were not. I even spoke to a different front lobby attendant when we got back from dinner and asked if he could just give me a light bulb to replace the main one that was out and he said that it could be a breaker that got tripped. Instead, I got one of the lights to work by switching out a bulb from the desk lamp. Other CONS: Water leaked all over the bathroom floor daily because the shower door didn’t close properly. My kids couldn’t get the barn door open that leads to the bathroom. My family barely slept due to people yelling and slamming their doors at all hours of the night. I understand that this last part isn’t something that the hotel can control, however the rest could have been easily fixed if they only cared.

Check in and check out was very easy and efficient! The breakfast buffet had a nice selection of hot and cold items. Plenty of space to sit and eat. Our hotel room had mold in the shower and it was clearly not cleaned well with previously spilled drinks not cleaned and leaving sticky residue by the ice bucket and cups.

The bathroom faucet was broken, the refrigerator was missing in the room. Was given access to someone else room.

Nalisha from FL with corporate was really nice & helpful. Staff was awesome and housekeeping was really keeping it smelling good and clean. Refridge was not working properly kept nothing cold. Our room air conditioner sounded like sandpaper rubbing together. Our pool was down all 3 nights kids had to go across the street to another hotel that was crowded. Breakfast was good but only served bacon on the weekends and I'm allergic to eggs. We went out for breakfast every morning.

This site was acceptable, but definitely not up to Marriott standards. When we arrived the room only had one towel (there were two of us), and had no shower gel or hand soap. We went a day and a half with no hot water after being promised it was being fixed. We ended up changing rooms after a search for a room that did have hot water. Then the internet went out and was still not working properly four days later. We were informed at check-in that room service was done every other day, but during our five night stay we only received service once (on day four) and that only included towels. The bathroom floor wasn’t washed or the carpet vacuumed nor was the trash emptied. Very disappointing stay.

Great location and price. Some staff could be a little nicer.

I did not have a good experience at all very disappointed. Last time we stayed it was perfect I’m not sure what happen this time.

When we went into our room and opened the fridge to put our groceries in, the entire fridge was dirty, unwashed, with chocolate milk residue and left overs. The next day I needed to join a conference on zoom for this I needed internet and I couldn't connect, so I called the reception desk and they told me that I had to call the company that services the hotel and deal with this problem myself. Plus the hotel room smells very stale and stagnant air. I travel a lot, but this is the first time I've come across such a horrible hotel, I really don't recommend it and I'm shocked.

Clean, close to everything. Just 12 mins from downtown. Bar was nice. Staff was friendly and helpful and thr bed was super comfy!
