We arrived in Juneau before checkin & it was nice they held our luggage while we explored town. However, the hotel has a lot to be desired. We knew the hotel was very old, however we felt they could have kept the rooms in much better shape: trim falling off, our shower door only closed if someone o/s of the shower pushed it really hard & the door still didn't close tight so got water all lover bathroom flooring (they gave us extra towels to keep the water soaked up), mattress bed terrible (soft/lumpy), chipped paint, tiny, tiny room, outlets in bathroom didn't work. Fortunately we were able to get a room with our own bathroom, otherwise you share bathrooms/showers. They did make our bed everyday but never emptied our garbage (we were there for 4 nights). They never touched the bathroom so didn't pick up used/wet towels, The toilet had mold ring along water line so I don't think it had been cleaned for awhile. Would visit the bar but would not stay at the hotel again.

Don’t be fooled: it IS an old, authentic property, with very small bedrooms, no elevator, no restaurant, and some rooms are not en suite: inquire ahead. But if you want ‘real’ this is for you. Period glass and furnishings help bring evoke the old days. There’s also an original Bar that adds flavor, and the judicious use of ‘meretricious red’ reminds sojourners of the Gold Rush days. Located in the heart of Historic Juneau, it’s well-situated to explore this under-rated travel destination city.

This is an historic hotel. It has been freshly restored. The rooms are small but comfortable. Ours was above the bar facing the street which was very noisy. They even give out earplugs at check in. Overall we had a good time and the staff was helpful.

Great location that's about the only thing that was great! Staff rude no help. The room very out dated. The bathroom shower leaked water everywhere. You hear everybody coming in and the bar loud. They offer plugs at check in WTH. I get it it's an old hotel and we have stayed in very old hotel and this was just not a great one!

The hotel is historic and right in the middle of town. There are plenty of dining options close by. The hotel is in need of updates. My room had peeling wallpaper and paint. It wouldn’t take much to fix it and still remain charming. My room was also very noisy.

Great vibe. Take note: if you have any heart issues, there is no elevator. You will carry your luggage up and down at least two flights of stairs. No restaurant in the hotel, but it's within walking distance to some really tasty food and drinks.

Very small room. Stuffy. Had to open windows for air but then noisy. Great location however.

    Beautiful historic building.

The downtown location is excellent, the building and my room were decorated with antique furniture of the era, my bed was comfortable, and the linens were good quality. The lower 12" of the room were not so good, with chipped paint, old carpet, and sharp edging on the carpet by the sink. Plumbing worked well. My ensuite bathroom was small, but so were the shared bathrooms. The 2nd floor is reached only by 26 shallow steps, with handrails that don't reach all the way to the top or bottom. Staff were great about hauling my bag up and down, but the stairs were difficult for me. My room was away from the bar and the street so I was not bothered by noise. Juneau was unusually warm during my visit, and so was my room. I was able to open my window, but it had no screen, and my view was a bunch of broken and discarded building materials. If I visit Juneau again, I really don't know if I would stay here.

We chose this hotel because it was within walking distance to the Cruise Port, where we were departing from two days later. The website stated that much of the hotel had been renovated. If so, apart from the mattress, the renovations must have occurred in the 1950's. The new mattress sat on a creaky, noisy wooden frame. The 2nd story room was small and cramped. No air conditioning. Three windows faced down to the street below. Only one window opened. The other two were taped shut, with a bent curtain rod held up by a piece of unfinished wood nailed to the window frame. The one window that did open didn't stay open. We had to prop it open with a stick. No screen on the window. An old box fan could be put in the window for air circulation. Bathroom was microscopic. Only one at a time could fit. There was a medicine cabinet for toiletries, but no shelves in it. No place for clothing except an antique wardrobe, which was filthy on the inside. One ceiling light. No lamps. The stairway leading to the second-floor rooms was a death trap. Seemed very much like it might have been the original from 1913. Going up was an adventure. Going down led me to prayer. Having spent the day exploring the town, we returned to the room where the thermostat read 89 degrees. At bedtime, the street below was populated with about a dozen weed-fueled (legal in AK) men, shouting back and forth to each other, and bothering passing tourists till after midnight. Other than that we had a great time!!!

I was only there for 2 nights and that was plenty. I was on a budget and traveling solo. The room was super clean and the bathroom too. The TV worked and that was really all I was looking for. It is in the heart of the downtown Juneau area. It is a perfect place to discover all that Juneau has to offer.

The location of this hotel is its strong point. I had a room with a bathroom and the bed was comfortable. The old fashioned radiator in the room kept the room hot with no adjustment. A fan was supplied and it helped. So you are staying in one of Juneau’s original hotels from the gold rush days and it showed. Stairs are wide and steep. One night with earplugs to hide the street noise was fine. I

it always amazing staying @ the Alaskan!

This is an historic hotel, which is just what I was looking for. It’s got tons of old world, charm, and a really vibrant and noisy bar downstairs. Things quieted down by midnight and there were complementary earplugs which I appreciated. But you have to know what you’re getting yourself into at this charming location in the heart of old town Juneau. If you’re up for an Alaskan adventure, don’t miss it.

The building was certainly old, but after getting past first impressions, we were quite satisfied with the room. For a bed and a shower, it's the best value in town!

This is a unique place. It has old rooms, steep stairs, small rooms, and a really funky vibe. It has a great location in the middle of town. Those expecting a Holiday Inn will not like this place. But it has soft beds, clean towels, and is an memorable experience. The staff were helpful and helped me carry things up the stairs. My room was quiet in spite of the bar next door. I would stay there again.
