The Shoal La Jolla Beach

We enjoyed our stay at The Shoal. The staff were welcoming and kind. The room was very clean. I appreciated how close the hotel was to the beach! Would absolutely stay there again!

We really appreciated that we were so close to the beach. There is no breakfast available in the lobby, but there's a great breakfast place next door with good coffee and good breakfast burritos. The major downside to this property was the parking. There is a per day parking fee of $15 which seemed excessive to us since we had to pay so much for the room each night. In addition, it was extremely challenging to park in the very small and tight parking lot. On some mornings it was really hard to get out of our parking spot because of how close other cars were to our car.

Fabulous! Newly renovated rooms, comfy mattress, walk to beach, nice pool and hot tub. Conveniently located to a market and several places to eat. Staff very nice!

The staff were incredibly nice and welcoming. I made an error in booking my hotel for the duration of my stay and they assisted me and fixed everything with no fuss. The room was perfect!- clean, bright, extremely comfortable bed. I was shocked at the considerately placed multi charger and used it every single day. My next trip to San Diego? Definitely staying here again!

We liked that WindanSea beach is just down the street. $20.00 a night for parking on top of the $400.00 a night rate for an older well used facility. This place is more motel than hotel. First night we had dinner and upon our return, the parking lot was full. Along with all of the near by street street parking. Took a shower in a bath tub with a slow drain so the tub filled up. Pretty gross. The dish cable box had to be reset and we had a noisy person above us.

Great staff, nice hotel with pool and hot tub. Free parking. Good location, lots within walking distance. No breakfast. Windansea is not the best beach in La Jolla. Small beach with rough water.

Nice room, clean.

It was small, but I enjoyed a lot the quiet pool and Jacuzzi where I could relax at night after my travels. I couldn't watch the World Cup match due to TV channel limitations.

The staff is very friendly and helpful

When we told the staff that he was acting aggressive and inappropriate, they simply told us they called his room and seemed to not be the aggressor. Instead of investigating and accommodating, they said “we’ll just refund you right now” and requested we not call the police even though we didn’t feel safe in our room. Needless to say, we left that night. Although they seemed apologetic after the fact. They were more concerned about optics than the actual safety of their residents.

Nice large, clean rooms. Close to shops and beaches.

The location was great, the staff was so kind and helpful, and the rooms have been updated. The only downside was the noise - the walls are thin, and if you are on the first floor, you get headlights in your room, parking lot noise, and the sound of walking on the hard floors in the room above you. I heard the entire conversation from the room behind me while in the bathroom, as if they were in my room with me. The bed was comfortable, but if you are a light sleeper like me, it is very noisy if there are any other guests around. Great little spot to grab food and coffee just steps from the property and super easy walk to the beach!

The staff went beyond. The bed was soft and comfortable. The pool and hot top was a great touch after a long day. Very well kept up.

Clean room

For the area, the hotel was a good price and a good budget option. The walls are very thin and we heard our upstairs neighbors all night but it was a good central location. Parking wasn’t the greatest and we couldn’t park on site for one of the nights.

Great location for WindanSea beach. Clean and well maintained with friendly staff.
