The stairs with international size luggage was not fun and not the most desirable of locations but staff were helpful and it was just one night so it did the trick for the price

Friendly staff. Old building with musty smell and carpeting in hallway and stairs that was filthy. Had microwave, fridge and coffee maker in room. Air conditioning is a portable on floor that works well but very loud. Location centralized between Catalina ride destination and universal studios. Within walking distance to boardwalk and beach. Parking in back alley for additional $25/day.

The outside looks a little questionable but it’s nice inside.

Such a great place to stay. I would recommend it for everyone...

I thought this 1920s building conversion was incredibly creative and loved my stay! The room was spotless, the AC worked perfectly, and having a fridge, microwave, TV, and Keurig was fantastic. The setup is unique—separate from the lobby and up a steep flight of stairs, with easy keyless code access. It is a tight fit, though; the bathroom is very small, there’s no closet, and the layout is a bit unconventional. Parking isn't on-site, but we found a lot for $20 just two minutes away. It's a compact, bare-minimum space for storage, but highly functional and clean!

Service was great. Wifi needs a little work but overall it was a nice place to stay and walkable to the restaurants in LBC. Worth a look if you need a place to stay before ferrying to Catalina.

Less of a hotel, more of an old, run down room for rent

Great overnight stay before our cruise, close to restaurants, and charming space.

We booked it to stay for a night before our cruise. The price was great and the reviews were okay, so we booked it ! Honestly, the hotel smelled like cat pee including our room. The TV didn’t work. The staff was super nice and helpful though and it was in a great location. So that’s a plus. I guess it was alright for one night but we wouldn’t stay there again and rather pay more for a nicer place next time.

The Hotel Royal really is a cool place to say. Walking distance to Pine St/Downtown, Pike shopping, and tons of eclectic stores and bars.

The receptionist wasn’t there when we came in and there was no sign saying when they’d be back. When they did arrive they were rude and extremely unhelpful, we wanted early check in and knew it was an extra cost and depended on room availability. We were told we’d get a text when it was ready, we didn’t, we went back to ask again and got our room, paid the early check in fee even tho we got the room 40 minutes early instead of the 2 hours like we tried for. The room itself was dingy, as if you were staying in someone’s bedroom. The towels were stained the shower leaked, zero counter space etc.

Good nice room. Complimentary water bottles. Nearby restaurants.

This place was amazing. Such a beautiful little apartment feel. Had a full kitchen and plenty of room. We will definitely be back!!
-
Couldn’t use the air conditioning but we didn’t have to, so I never asked.

No hot water and very few plates/utinsels

Rooms are small and cozy very clean! Building is a bit on the older side but very well taken care of. A/c worked great! My only concern is parking was limited but we made it on time to get one. We walked to most spots for dinner very nice area! Beds were super comfy!!

There were a few issues upon arrival. The room was unlocked which was odd. It has a coded door lock but when you leave it does not automatically lock so you have to remember to manually lock it. Same for when you’re in the room. Although there was a window AC unit, there was still central AC that was only controlled by the front desk. So it was freezing in the room and I had to ask the front desk several times to either turn it down or off. The lobby area is always locked so if you want to go to the kitchen or get coffee you have to hope someone is there to buzz you in. I’ve stayed at these boutique-ey type properties before but this one just kind of missed the mark. Maybe a few tweaks to how they do things will help them in the future. That all said, it’s got a great location food, coffee etc. close by. And after the all the check in problems the staff comped my parking so that was great.
