Service was great! Wasn’t an overwhelming hostel and was very safe, with family and older couples staying as well.
-
Excellent facility with more than you could even hope to have available, staff were extra friendly & helped to make the stay as comfortable as possible, location to central Santa Monica/pier/beach can’t really be beat - it’s one street back so more quiet & I felt safe. Loved the filtered water machine too! Only improvement would be curtains between beds to give some privacy & shield from light of people coming & going at night.

Staff member was rude upon check-in. Otherwise they were all nice. No alcohol policy is not noted on Booking.com so came as a shock

We really enjoyed our stay at HI Los Angeles. The property had a great atmosphere, was in a fantastic location, the staff were super friendly and it was a comfortable and convenient place to stay. The huge balcony in our room was a real highlight for us — we loved being able to grab some food and sit outside overlooking the street. It had such a lovely atmosphere and was a great place to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Overall, we really liked the property and enjoyed our stay. The main things we didn’t like were the shower and the room layout. It took around five minutes for the hot water to come through, which was quite a long time to wait. The TV was also mounted on the wall to the left of the bed, making it difficult to watch comfortably from bed. There wasn’t a lounge or comfortable chair to sit on, even though there seemed to be enough space for one. Instead, there was just a table with a chair pushed up against the wall facing the TV, which wasn’t very comfortable for relaxing or watching television.

I can recommend this place enough! This was my first time traveling solo and my first time in California and lemme tell you I wish I had made my trip longer. The rooms were very nice and clean, bathrooms always available, kitchen while I didn’t have much time to use, was very nice and fully stocked with anything you needed for cooking. The people in my dorm seemed nice and as well and everyone was pretty respectful of each other. The adorable outdoor patio area was so nice and looking at all the shared art drawn on the windows was so fun. As a solo woman traveler I felt very safe there with the keycard systems and the area itself was not too bad. Always at least a few people out and about so you’re not alone on the streets. The staff were very kind and helpful, especially when I accidentally left my keycard in my room. The location was also amazing, right around the corner from the ocean and Santa Monica Pier. The beach had some very hot sand but was ultimately very enjoyable. Would absolutely return whenever I get the chance! Only one out of three washers was working but I appreciated the free detergent.

Hostels have come along way since my last stay 30 years ago. Such a clean and well maintained facility. Highly recommend for budget travelers. Local restaurants easily accessible and the ocean is a stone’s throw away.

However, some tenants did not want to clean their stuffs after they ate, bad habits! Walking distance to the beach and pier. Also very good location for the public bus (#3) from the LAX (via Metro Connector bus), travel time around 1.2 hours

The location was great. Our room stunk - it was mostly cleaned when we got there (sheets had some small stains on them), but the smell must come from the vents.
-
Having the kitchen available for use when I need it. Also, the location is so amazing with the train and buses accessible except you encounter all kinds of homeless people. Staff are all attentive to all issues and help resolve it. Some residents are not following the rules of the facility especially at night.

I have been there a few times Everything is good , shower, kitchen , freege , outside tables on the air, some area for relaxing and playing ... Unlimited wifi, internet! Just suggestion , to make common area bigger with a bigger screen for watching the sport matches
-
Baths updated and clean They need to replace the ice machine, it is gross filthy. Had multiple issues with beds not being ready that were booked confusion about who had which bed in our area. I just think they're short staffed on actual people cleaning rooms!
-
Life place to stay very convenient except some people there are may have to stay a little uncomfortable according to their hygiene but other than that, it was OK was a bummer because they stopped serving breakfast and as a hostel that’s where people come together
