Balboa Bay Resort

My husband and I stayed for a weekend to explore the area. The room was great and the staff were very kind. We enjoyed the restaurant and watching sunset on the patio. Parking was a bit of a mess due to construction at the site and had a $40 per night fee for self parking.

Exceptional

Hotel was still under renovation. Difficult to navigate the hotel and could have benefited from a more clear approach. Often found myself having to figure out my way through the hotel.

It’s a beautiful, modern, luxury marina front dream. The rooms are designed so beautifully and the bathroom is very spacious!

I was very disappointed in the room that was selected for me. My impression of what I reserved was completely different. The manger Georgia was not empathic and pretty dismissive about it. It just ruined the excitement for my birthday trip and first visit to California.

First stay at Balboa Bay — slept like a baby each night. I was here for a work conference up in Huntington Beach, so didn't get a chance to try the restaurant or pool area. The only downside was the lobby remodel, but easy walk around.

The room was nice and comfortable, with a spacious bathroom. Shower had great water pressure & quality shower wash and shampoo. I was surprised that there were NO lotions or shaving items provided. Also, it was clear that the lobby was under renovation (which was disclosed AFTER I had made the reservation). Overall, it was a pleasant stay.

It is undergoing a renovation. New, renovated room was very nice and comfortable. Due to renovations- lobby is temporary and not great and some elevators weren’t working -so walked a long way to my room! Overall, it will be very nice when completed in the next few weeks but a little rough during this stay. Coffee shop/breakfast area was unexpectedly nice and I wish I knew about it before checking out!

Through enjoyed our stay. If rest and relaxation are the goal, this is the place.

Exceptional

Everything was nightmare. I have been this hotel many times. After l gave birth and all wanted have a nice weekend with my husband and my baby . Have a dinner at the patio on the bay view. I ordered nice diner and a cockroach bite me. And dinner was continued another cockroach showed up and going on and on. My husband killed at list 6 cockroach’s that night and all dinner was disaster: I could not leave the room because my baby was sleeping. I was stucked there. I couldn’t sleep all night if the cockroach’s is inside the room and could hurt my baby. In the morning 7 am my husband said he will take the baby out and l can take a nap but now construction work started and all noise and all. I made a caffe and wanted to to padio to get relax because l was soo pissed ( why l need to wake up in the morning 8 am construction noise. ) And here we go again there is cockroach on the padio right next to the one we killed last night. I asked all my refund for the room they started to bullsit me.

Food was a little disappointing

I could not check in as upon arrival they advised the water would be off from 10pm to 6am. They should have advised before my arrival. They did agree to a full refund.

Resort staff is over the top, did a spa day excellent facial and massage. Great service everywhere we went. I rated five stars because every experience was excellent, better than other resorts.

Had a great stay beautiful views, amazing service. My favorite was the extra touches the complimentary bottle of wine upon arrival and the beach kits they put together for you! Would definitely recommend and stay again.

Decent pool but no views. Odd layout, lobby under construction. Overpriced.

Beautiful. Clean and easy to get around. The food and room service are incredible! Our ocean view room was very beautiful. We overlooked the private beach, so when the door was open it was a little loud with all the kids, but when the door is closed, you can’t hear them. Adam S. The manager was amazing. He was very helpful and accommodating and we really appreciated his professionalism and how nice he was. We have intentions of returning whenever we can. I didn’t like that they were renovating the lobby and did not tell us until the day before we were to arrive. Also, the woman at the front desk didn’t seem very happy to work there and was a little snotty.

Shout-out to Georgia at the front desk who helped us check-in and accommodate us—I had made a snafu in booking and had two different reservations. Another person helped us previously and said there was nothing they could do but Georgia was able to get us a king bed room that prevented us from switching rooms. The staff was helpful in terms of getting us baby things- tea kettle, extra bottles of water, and crib. Someone saw my kids one morning and came back with two dolphin stuffies- one for each of them. The pool was great and I liked the location in that it was near Balboa Bay but also accessible to the rest of the area. We were in town visiting friends in Laguna Hills and Huntington Beach, with a party in Balboa Bay so the location worked for us. My only real criticism is that the food could be much better. The poolside snacks and breakfast were decent but the dinner was not great—my wife paid $36 for a mediocre chicken Caesar salad.
