Great value. They have done a tasteful job renovating this historic building. Not luxurious but thoughtful, practical and comfortable, which are my primary requirements.

The hotel was great. There was a vibey bar next door. The surrounding neighborhood is a little rough.

Unfortunately, the rest of the stay was disappointing. The biggest issue was the amount of noise. We heard constant noise throughout the night, beyond reasonable city noise. There was so much noise that we could even hear music playing inside passing cars. It honestly felt like sleeping at street level rather than in a hotel room. We even checked to see if the windows were open or broken because of how much noise was coming through. The room itself had several other issues. While it looked nice, the sink had no cold water, and there was no drinking water in the room. We would have had to go back to the lobby to get water, so we ended up drinking warm tap water in the middle of the night. The bathroom layout is also awkward, with the sink located outside the toilet area, meaning you have to leave the bathroom and walk to the other end of the room just to wash your hands. What was also disappointing was the response from the front desk. When we called early in the morning to report how much outside noise was coming through the room, the initial response was, "We're in the city, and cities have noise." For a hotel with zero amenities and no major attractions nearby, we expected the focus to be on providing a comfortable room and a good night's sleep, but didn't happen.

great stay

Clean room. Friendly staff. They have complimentary ice water at the desk, which seems small, but so much better than room tap water! Nice little bar. Great location with lots of places within walking distance.

Amazing

Very welcoming vintage feel. Definitely will stay again.

Bar wasn't available, room clean and basic.

Creepy nut jobs roamed the area. A front desk worker came out when one was trying to get money from us. Overall, it was a fine place to stay for a show at Renaissance Hall. Major complaints would be that the bed is super low, and the coffee maker is pretty janky, though the coffee is great. The body wash was empty, and the safe was broken. Overall fine for the price.

The hotel was lovely but the surrounding area was fairly desolate. A couple restaurants down the block were helpful. Only complaint about the hotel itself was how dimly lit the hallways were, it felt a bit like a haunted house until you got into the room which was beautiful

I wanted to like this hotel but had a rough trip. The positives: staff were very friendly and helpful, the property is cute and well maintained, the location was convenient for what we like to do in Portland, and the free coffee in mornings was quite good. The minor negative is that the room was awkward in the way you'd expect for a historic property: small, bathroom and sink not connected, extremely limited/not great outlets. The major negative doesn't apply to all of the rooms, but did to ours. The rooms that front Grand are incredibly loud. There's seemingly no soundproofing. Grand is a loud street in terms of traffic noise, and the bar nextdoor and shelter across the street were very loud late into the night. After the first night we asked if there was anything we could do and the only option was to move to a higher floor still on Grand, which didn't seem worth repacking for. I liked some things about this hotel and it's probably fine if you have a room on the west side of the building. But when you have a good chance of getting an incredibly loud room it's hard to recommend.

Food facilities were limited

In a very downtrodden part of Portland next to a homeless shelter that gets very noise at night.

We are giving this hotel room review a 1. The reason for this is once we checked into our room we pulled the bed blanket back and saw a four inch diameter pinkish red blood stain on the bed sheet (and mattress). Why would a hotel reuse a clearly blood stained sheet on their bed if they can not get the blood stain completely out of the sheet? My husband then called the front desk to explain the situation and ask for a different room. The front desk clerk said we could bring the sheet down to the front desk and exchange it for a new one. She said they try to clean their sheets and mattresses as best as they can. She said they didn't have anyone available to change the sheet. At first the clerk said they didn't have an available room for us to move to. She called back 5-10 minutes later and told us we could move to a different room.

our room was very cute and clean, but the A/C in our room didn’t seem to work. the parking situation is tough as the valet is $55 and street parking in the area is 2 hours maximum. but, it’s in a great, walkable location for some cool bars and restaurants. if street noise bothers you, this isn’t the place for you. even on a sunday night there was quite a lot of traffic all night.

Rally is a jewel to the hotel staff. No other employees really engaged with me, but Rally’s warmth was worth the stay.

The only issue was some of the outlets did not work.

We stay here quite a bit when we come to Portland. The hotel has a European vibe and the staff is incredibly helpful and kind.

The hotel is nicely renovated, the common areas as well as the rooms attractive and comfortable. The staff are excellent. They are friendly and helpful. The location is mixed. There is easy access either walking or public transportation to all the sites. There were quite a few excellent restaurants in walking distance. There is a large unhoused population all around the property. We were never bothered by anybody and the hotel is very secure. One just needs to know that the overall area is down and out. Lastly, the hotel does not currently have their restaurant open. They provide morning coffee and have a bar open in the evening. While there weee many good nearby restaurants for lunch and dinner, the only place for breakfast Nextdoor appeared to be a greasy spoon and not appealing. See above.
