Holiday Inn Express & Suites Reading by IHG

For some reason the room air conditioning would not stay cool. It would get very hot in the middle of the night. Awful. We paid in cash upon arrival as we had to leave at 5 am Sunday. We were charged on our card once as a mistake then again on the day we left. Im still trying to get it fixed.

The clerk that checked us in was very nice and helpful (she told me about the IHG rewards program). The room needs some updating. The carpet looks old, the vents were dusty, the windows need cleaning and the sprinker was rusted. I had to get a clean pillowcase and additional towels from housekeeping when she was in the hallway. There was no exhaust fan in the bathroom. We couldn't control the thermostat, so we had to turn it off because the nights were cooler than normal. I was expecting a bigger pool and exercise room, so we didn't even bother to use them.

Exceptional

Staff person at check in was very friendly. Room was clean and comfortable when I arrived. Breakfast. Bagel was extremely stale. Scrambled eggs were ok but tasteless. Egg omelettes were over cooked. One day my room was not serviced. Towels had significant stains on them.

Beautiful experience

Staff was accommodating my request for a first floor handicap room. Clerk was pleasant when checking in. Parking was an issue. No handicap sites left. I parked in the Diamond member spot and added my handicap placard in case someone would question it. We missed breakfast but coffee was available. Would be nice if a carafe of ice water were available.

Looked to be an older hotel, what you would expect for the price.

Disappointing

The pool needs to be open to at least 10pm. We arrived at the hotel to find that the pool was closed- closed at 9pm. We have stayed in many hotels where the pool is open till at least 10pm or 11pm. The kids where disappointed.

We liked that it was clean and the staff very nice and attentive. What we didn’t liked was how loud was the sound of the ac when it turned on and that we were woke up by the cleaning staff very early both days knocking on doors waking everyone up screaming room service and knocking even when we had the sign to do not disturb. We were supposed to check out by 11 and around 8:30 we were woken up by them.

If you are looking for a clean room, look elsewhere. The halls needed vacuumed. The room had a mild chemical smell. There was a used washcloth on the bathroom floor and food in the microwave.

This facility needs a lot of improvement. It has a motel vibe. It’s even graffitied on the outside of property.

Very good

The hotel is being painted on the outside, and it looks like new furniture has been added to the rooms, but the bathroom tub and the vents were old and rusted in places. The carpet in the room felt musty, so we wore our socks while walking around in the room. It was very unorganized behind the front desk counter. It had an open purse sitting out from one of the workers, disorganized papers, a hair dryer, and shorts which look like they could have been boxers on the counter behind the desk. The front doors were wide open the whole time we were there, so it was humid and warm in the lobby. This also let in tons of flies.

Very nice facilities

Breakfast was ok. Check in was easy and friendly, room was clean and comfortable Bathroom repairs were hideous. A new shower curtain rod was replaced, old hole repairs were awful

The cleanliness of the rooms was outstanding. The staff were friendly but not as friendly as in other hotels that we visited before.

Beds and linens were comfortable Breakfast was disgusting. Green hard boiled eggs; out of date and bad yogurt etc. The building needs some repairs. Weeds growing everywhere in the landscaping out front. Cones in the potholes in the parking area.
