We were given the wrong room upon arrival--and had to pack up everything we had unpacked and move to another room. Very inconvenient and awkward. The floors seemed to be greasy with some kind of cleaning solution. Otherwise, enjoyed our stay--the location can't get much better, and we enjoyed our room with the balcony with the ocean view.

Looks to be a family owned motel just across the road from the beach. Not all the rooms have a view of water. Our ocean view queen room did. The room was small, but fine for two, and had a balcony with the nice beach and pier view. There are restaurants all around.

The ocean view is slightly misleading because it's at about a 45 degree angle to the balcony. There is a LOT of noise on weekend nights both from other rooms and from the street, but the people watching is entertaining. There are lots of places to shop, browse and eat at all within short walking distance. The room is small and the bathroom is very small. When you sit on the toilet, you could lean your head on the sink by just bending forward. The staff was friendly and helpful. Parking is free in the small surface lot next to the hotel entrance. The courtyard has a nice fountain and there are two levels of patio decks with tables overlooking the beach so a private balcony with a view is not really critical. It's not the newest hotel, but it was clean and well maintained, and you can't beat the location. It's just not a luxury destination. I was very satisfied with the trip and wouldn't mind staying there again for a laid back weekend.

If you have an aversion to late-night noise, maybe consider a different place. It’s across from a lively corner where people gather. I loved the sounds but I am a sound sleeper.

I was completely in shock how bad this hotel was. Our room was as small as a bathroom and our ocean view was basically looking into a parking lot with only part of the ocean viewable. The room smelled terrible. It actually looked like a drug house! The beach across the street is filled with nothing but homeless people and dogs. The streets are filthy making you not even want to eat in the restaurants that are around this hotel. It's shocking that this hotel is even on Expedia or that they charge over $200 a night for this hotel! The worst hotel experience of my life! If you're thinking about booking this hotel, be warned, run!

The neighborhood is dirty, lots of homeless.

Love this small hotel and the fact that it is directly across from the beach with nothing between you and the ocean. About 30 steps to the sand and sea and right at the heart of all the action of bars, dining, shopping and absolute fun. Only wish is that the rooms had microwaves but, plenty of hot food and hot/cold drinks right on Newport Ave next to Ocean Beach Hotels. Please don't go here though. I need to ensure vacancy when I wish to go back to Ocean Beach!

First time in San Diego and stayed close to my work conference. This hotel is small and literally on the beach. It’s humid and that brings its own challenges. And it’s in an area that I’ll say is not family friendly. If you’re young, single, and all about the hippie culture, this is your spot.

The parking lots are very narrow and when the hotel gets full you either cannot get into your car or you have to park in the street because people double park

TV had issues every day, as we had to constantly reset the input to be able to watch. Took two days for them to explain the problem to us and how to fix it. The bathroom was small. Sitting on the toilet and could rest our chin on the sink. Shower looked new and was nicely done and clean. Being so close to the beach, especially at night, it did get kind of loud with crowds and a drum circle on Wednesday, but not unexpected for a beach town. We had a good white noise machine to allow us to sleep.

two weird things no screens on the windows or sheer curtains and the bathroom was arranged funky that being said the view was amazing the staff was very helpful and the courtyard was beautiful.

The view was great! The band's sound at the beach wasn't great.

Everything you needed was walkable

Loved this property! It is right on the beach. Tons of places to dine and seek entertainment within walking distance. Room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom in our room was very tiny but was clean and everything worked. We would gladly stay here again.

The OB Hotel is great! Our room was spacious and clean. The parking and gift shop are very convenient. The best part of our stay was enjoying the front balconies where you get a perfect view of the sunset, the pier and all the people on the beach. The location couldn’t possibly be better.
