Palihotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter

The location is very good considering gaslamp neighborhood, Some of the staff members are friendly and nice for example people at reception, maintenance team, valet team..super friendly. I'd like to highlight rooftop, which is great. But some negatives are prices calling it a 4 star property, which is not justified for the size of the rooms..I mean, as soom as you opem the door, room is done ! They're super tiny...bathrooms are not that great either. Elevators...I have no words...in the name of vintage elevators, it's just trash..super slow, super inconvenient if you have luggages..and on top of that, only 1 of them works. I mean come on guys, you are 4 star and this are elevators?! Could do better..overall 2/5 in general!

Clean rooms and super cute themes/ I love the refinished look to a historical building. Super nice rooms and cute aesthetics. The cafe was amazing, had the beach French omelette and hazelnut cappuccino I’ve ever tried. On the pricey side for rooms but worth it.

Great location, but very small rooms. Be aware they currently only have one lift. We were checking out as a conference was starting and had to wait over thirty mins for the lift as they were expressing it to the rooftop for the conference. Rooftop was cute but only has the bar open on weekends. No room service. Aircon was failing and it was super hot. No ventilation in the bathroom. Very slow one lift.

Beautiful older hotel. Wonderful staff. Great location. A little noisy at night, but to be expected in that location.

The room was good, elevator was scary and takes WAAAAAY too long but I wasnt in too much of a rush The thing I didn't like was that you have to pay for valet parking per night, which was not disclosed on the website, we also had to pay another booking fee which was also NOT in the booking. When I booked the room it said there was no other fee but when I actually got there there were two extra fees I had to pay and I'm lucky enough I had the extra money, but I don't think I'm ever going to this hotel again.

Loved the style and vibe of this hotel! The room was definitely on the smaller side, but having a king bed made it completely workable, and the great decor made the space feel special. Just be aware that parking is $65/night, which felt pretty steep compared to the room rate. Overall, I had a great stay and would absolutely stay here again.

Came to San Diego for a Naval ceremony on the Midway and this was the perfect spot for a weekend stay. My husband and I checked in late and the staff was very welcoming. Our room was clean and comfortable. Small, but the historic charm made it feel like a European hotel room. We liked the modern upgrades like the dimming lights. We didn’t have much of a “window” (it just opened to an enclosed courtyard) but only really stayed in the room at night so it didn’t matter much. The neighborhood is a bit loud but the hotel felt safe. Definitely a good option for what we needed!

The room was cute but It’s a good hotel if you stay for a night or two. The ac was broken and the phone didn’t work. Staff was very helpful though.

we had a great stay at Palihotel. The location was good and almost all the staff was helpful and friendly. We had an issue with one valet person, he was never around when we dropped off or picked up our car. At one point we waited a half hour and he finally showed up getting out of the passenger seat of a car. At $65 a night for parking that was frustrating. It was only one person and he only worked one day we were there. The other valet employees were great.

Very cool hotel! Staying here feels like stepping back in time. We truly enjoyed our stay, and the entire staff was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The valet service was always prompt and efficient. I highly recommend checking out the rooftop bar and dining at the Saint James Restaurant. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a unique and memorable experience!

The hotel has a great vibe and is overall nice, great people, and staff. The room we stayed in was small but perfect for our needs. The only problem we had is that it was hot, and could not sleep because the Air Conditioning was not working properly. The elevators are slow, and old also.

Pros: Staff was very accommodating. I chose the Palihotel San Diego after staying at the Tampa location a couple of years ago. There was no comparison. The SD location is in a very old building. My room looked out over the air shaft so there was no day light in the room. The air conditioner in my room was loud and did not cool the room down. The staff replaced it and we were grateful. On the 2nd day I noticed that the window in our bathroom was open so I closed it. By the evening our room smelled like dead fish. We were leaving the next day so I did not move rooms. The manager comped us a night. There are two elevators in the building but only one works. Not a huge deal since we were on the third floor and could get a bit of exercise in taking the stairs but annoying all the same. The location is ok if you like cheap eats and rowdy bars. We likened it to a seedier Rush and Division if you are familiar with Chicago. 2 nights of our stay were during the week so the area was very quiet. Friday night was alive with folks going out. Having a room that did not face the street saved us from any of the street noise. We heard fellow guests complaining Saturday morning. Personally, I would not stay in the Gas Lamp area again. I hope Palihotel corporate sees this review. It is NOT geared towards the folks who work at the hotel but to whoever chose the location, the design of the property and how it is maintained.

Staff was extremely friendly! The location of this property is pretty great: in the Gaslamp district, close to the harbour, buzzing night-life just nearby. The rooms are really small. The elevators are old-school, which is a pro in terms of aesthetic but a con when it comes to practicality. They also have a $65 mandatory valet parking which is worth it given that the hotel is in downtown and free public parking would be hard to find! The valet parking is in a safe, underground parking lot! The AC was flimsy. They provided a remote for the AC unit but turns out it was centralized and on a hot day, it was not providing any relief (even at night).

The staff—the people who work there are very kind. The room service hours (or lack there of) were so slim. When I’d dial to order food the phone would just keep ringing. The WiFi was wonky, the AC went out, the elevator was a nightmare. The hotel charges for every tiny thing. I was told my parking would be charged to the room but I found two tickets on my car.
