Cornell Hotel

Good location, decent size rooms. Some of the staff were really knowledgeable and useful but some could use with more training. The elevator is an interesting historical one need to be patient as sometimes is not working properly. Breakfast was ok but it can easily be improved.

My room could use some updating. Outdated wallpaper that was peeling.

The junior suite smelled strongly of mold, so we asked to be moved; the replacement room had been renovated but was a clear downgrade from what we had paid for. The second room (the other reservation) was very small, outdated, and in dire need of renovation, with visible mold in the shower stall. We accepted this room and decided to deal with the mold issue the next day because we were so tired. The following day, the hotel showed us two junior suites, we accepted one, packed all of our belongings, and moved. Once we closed the window and left for the day, we returned to find that the mold smell had come back, meaning the odor had only been masked by the open window. At that point, we ended up packing our belongs once again, going back to the original small room with mold in the bathroom. That evening, the hotel offered yet another room, resulting in a 3rd move, even though we were scheduled to check out the next day. We spent more time viewing rooms, packing, and moving than enjoying the city. When I raised all of this with the front desk, I was told the manager would call us, but we never received a call, were not offered any credit, refund, or meaningful apology for the inconvenience and health concerns. Positive was the central location and bfast. Overall we would not come back. Extremely poor customer service.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. Just take note it's an older hotel so a mini fridge or microwave is not in your own room but shared in their cafe. It has an old time charm, but there were a couple of times the elevator kind of broke, so just watch out for that. Breakfast selection is okay, just the usual basics. The location is very convenient tho. Minutes from union square and a lot of food places nearby.

This place is a gem in a good area with restaurants and transportation to fisherman wharf, I would recommend to park in the Sutter Stockton it’s spacious and safe, would stay here again!!!

I have stayed in many San Francisco hotels because I work remotely and travel to the City for work. This is the first place that has felt like home. It has quirky charm. My 6th floor room was small but comfortable. The property and the neighborhood were very quiet at night and I slept with the window open, awakening to birds chirping. The breakfast buffet was an added plus.

My room was clean, and the bed was very comfortable after a long day of traveling. The lady at reception was lovely, and the hotel decor is very cute, especially the old cage elevator, which adds a lot of charm. There is a bit of an old-building smell in some areas, but since it is an older property, that was not completely unexpected. Breakfast was plentiful, and overall I had a very nice stay. I am giving 4 stars because of how my luggage was handled. I asked the hotel to store my bag for the day while I was out, but it was left on top of a bench near the reception entrance, exposed to anyone walking in or out. Thankfully, nothing happened, but I did not feel that was a secure way to store a guest’s belongings. The hotel should have a designated luggage storage room, or at least keep guests’ bags behind the counter where they are not easily accessible. This is something that could definitely be improved.

Lovely little inn that feels like you are in Europe. The bed was extremely comfortable.

Very clean room and helpful staff! The free breakfast was cool but I wish they had the waffles and bacon when we stayed. It’s close by a lot of stuff and we would stay here again. The hotel has a great charm to it while still being updated and clean

Unfortunately this trip there were a few issues that lowered our satisfaction. The ice machine was out of order our entire stay, and one night in particular we would have appreciated some ice. Our breakfast was great the first few days. We especially enjoyed the French bread, bacon and orange slices. The last day none of these items were available.
