I have stayed in many San Francisco hotels because I work remotely and travel to the City for work. This is the first place that has felt like home. It has quirky charm. My 6th floor room was small but comfortable. The property and the neighborhood were very quiet at night and I slept with the window open, awakening to birds chirping. The breakfast buffet was an added plus.

My room was clean, and the bed was very comfortable after a long day of traveling. The lady at reception was lovely, and the hotel decor is very cute, especially the old cage elevator, which adds a lot of charm. There is a bit of an old-building smell in some areas, but since it is an older property, that was not completely unexpected. Breakfast was plentiful, and overall I had a very nice stay. I am giving 4 stars because of how my luggage was handled. I asked the hotel to store my bag for the day while I was out, but it was left on top of a bench near the reception entrance, exposed to anyone walking in or out. Thankfully, nothing happened, but I did not feel that was a secure way to store a guest’s belongings. The hotel should have a designated luggage storage room, or at least keep guests’ bags behind the counter where they are not easily accessible. This is something that could definitely be improved.

Lovely little inn that feels like you are in Europe. The bed was extremely comfortable.

The whole building was different loved it

Very clean room and helpful staff! The free breakfast was cool but I wish they had the waffles and bacon when we stayed. It’s close by a lot of stuff and we would stay here again. The hotel has a great charm to it while still being updated and clean

The breakfast was unmatched! Very cute hotel

Loved the themed hotel and the breakfast was delicious. Staff was so so kind and helpful. It is a chaotic neighborhood, but we were able to find street parking for the night which was a very economical option. We were able to find street parking, but had to circle for a while first. There are convenient garages that make it easier if you’re willing to pay the garage price.
-
Secondly, I wish they had an agreement with the parking garage across the street for discounted parking, since they will recommend it, but then they are not on the garage's list of hotel partners for which they offer 10% discounts —why not? Those garage employees also tried to get me to pay an extra fee for in/out privileges, which I had already paid for, so be careful with them. In terms of facilities, you should be aware that since this is an old hotel, there is no A/C. It was not hot enough to bother me, but if you need a very cool room to sleep in, you will have a problem. There was a very small lobby dining area with a microwave, and I did not go to the breakfast dining room in the basement, which was not accessible by elevator and not well-signed.

Guest Name: Mr. Sanjay Kumar Jha Reservation Details: • Check-in: 24 May 2026 • Check-out: 28 May 2026 • Room Booked: Junior Suite( 2 Pax – me and my wife) • Location: 715 Bush Street, Union Square, San Francisco, CA 94108 • Total Amount Paid: USD 801.32 Price Break-up: • Junior Suite: USD 612.85 • Taxes: USD 108.47 • Resort Fee: USD 80.00 • Total: USD 801.32 The reservation was made on 8 May 2026 through Booking.com. Upon arrival on 24 May 2026, we were informed by the reception staff, Ms. Yakelin, that the hotel's only elevator had been non-functional for more than two months. Since the Junior Suite booked by us was located on the 5th floor, and considering our age (I am above 60 years and my wife is 55 years), accessing the room without elevator service would have been extremely difficult and inconvenient. Accordingly, we requested an alternative room on a lower floor. Ms. Yakelin kindly shifted us to a room on the 2nd floor. However, this was a lower-category room than the Junior Suite originally booked and paid for. Throughout our stay, from 24 May to 28 May 2026, we repeatedly enquired about the difference in room tariff. On every occasion, the reception staff assured us that approximately USD 120+ would be refunded after managerial approval within 3–4 working days. Based on these assurances, we completed our stay and settled the full invoice through our American Express Card at check-in. I would also like to place on record that the hotel's only elevator had reportedly been out of service for more than two months prior to our arrival. Such a significant facility outage should have been clearly disclosed either at the time of booking on 8 May 2026 or, at the very least, communicated to us prior to our arrival.

Unfortunately this trip there were a few issues that lowered our satisfaction. The ice machine was out of order our entire stay, and one night in particular we would have appreciated some ice. Our breakfast was great the first few days. We especially enjoyed the French bread, bacon and orange slices. The last day none of these items were available.
-
The breakfast was so so but other than that we really enjoyed the hotel and its location.

Sweet property that is holding on to its heyday. I heard lots of French spoken, by guests and staff alike. The building is cozy with the original 98-year-old temperamental elevator. The rooms are each unique in their conformation and qualities. There's a breakfast room in the basement with a statue of Jeanne D'Arc (Joan of Arc) and French decoration! No air conditioning but the property isn't conducive to a retrofit. But the fan that was provided was unusable. The toilets are temperamental and care must be taken to make sure they do their job.

Good location. Walkable to restaurants, big bus tours and Chinatown. Having breakfast included was nice.

Great hotel. Unique. Each floor had its own theme decorations. Elevator was ‘old style’ with a cage - fun to ride. Hot breakfasts from 7:30-10:30 am. Comfortable bed. Will stay here again.
