The Herbert Hotel

In San Franciso. Nobody works at the hotel. You have to go to another hotel to talk to a person at their front desk. There was hair all in my bed and in my shower. 0/10 if I must be honest.

Love it! My go to hotel when I’m in the city.

If you’re going to SF for a quick trip, this is super affordable and well located. However there is no front desk (have to check in at Hotel Stratford which is a block away) and no amenities and you cannot leave your luggage at Hotel Stratford. I’d recommend you bring flip flops, ear plugs, and your own body wash etc. We also did have a false fire alarm go off the first night at 4:30am and the SFFD came quickly. But I do think it was fine safety wise as you must have the card to get into the building and the elevator.

Excellent location, a block from Union Square. East check in at sister hotel 190m up the street Room was clean but very dated. All I needed was in the area. Great value!

The room was small dim and grim. The bathtub was awful - either needs to be bombed with bleach or entirely reporcelain. The windows were caked and dirt. There is only one dim overhead light and a tiny little desk lamp Nothing by the bedside. The sheets we're very clean and very white but the bottom she was not fitted so it continually slipped and expose the mattress. That said, it was an amazing location, right on Powell so for the price it is a decent value. It's just very bare-bones. Their affiliated property, the Bartlett guest house is where I usually stay and has a bit more charm to it. The woman who checked me in was very helpful and accommodated my room requests, and warned me that if I had a street facing room it would be very noisy. It was indeed, but I actually kind of like the sounds of the city especially because the cable cars passed right below and that is a delight. One of the windows was broken and unable to open it, but I was able to get fresh air the room temperature was always fine the floors were clean. The bathroom however has a ridiculous door that you basically have to step into the bathtub to get around to get to the toilet. All in all it was well worth what I paid but I have the choice I will go around the corner to the Bartlett. Oh also - I asked for late check out and they were very accommodating at front desk but they didn't inform the cleaning crew! So I was awoken twice by knocks on my door when I had really wanted to sleep late.

Great location , hotel could do well a spruce up and air con would help the hot rooms

It was a room the walls were so thin I could here everything in the hotel and outside, it was very hard to have quiet and sleep i was woken up constantly. They gave me a loft bed, which was a mattress on the floor with a stair case leading up rather than a normal bed, it was very uncomfortable the window did not have a full shade. It took them 2 days to bring me shampoo for the bathroom.

A little fridge and a microwave in the room would be a nice touch.

Staff was really nice, overall the room was functional for our needs. Not the cleanest but it didn’t feel dirty. Location was convenient and nice.

The hotel is definitely old and you get the price that you pay for. It definitely gets the job done in terms of your basic needs: a clean room and a clean washroom. However, I’m not sure if I’ll stay here again. There was a foul odour that I smelled in the reception and hallway whenever I walked in. Also, the location is great but I don’t feel safe walking around by myself at nighttime. Furthermore, the room is not very soundproof so I can hear the people beside my room. I didn’t know that even though I chose a private washroom, the washroom was technically designed to be shared between two rooms. They do lock the other room’s access to it so you technically have the washroom to yourself but I can definitely hear when there are other people in the next room. The fan ceiling and opening the windows definitely helped with the cooling the room as it does get very hot but opening the windows just means you can hear the streetcars and other noises outside. I do appreciate that there is a tv and shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and a kettle were provided. Overall, my basic needs were met but don’t expect anything more. I hope they renovate this hotel one day.

For no frills, this place was perfect. Just wanted to stay the night for a Giants game. Right off bart. Perfect price. Have to check in across the street at the sister hotel but minor inconvenience. Small but clean. Just right.

The price was very good, it was close to several places, and the nights were very quiet.

It is usually my go to hotel but this was a bad experience. I paid for a room with bathroo., was given a room with shared bathroom. When I checked in it took awhile because the staff was moving very slowly and could not find reservation (she was in another hotel portal). I was running behind my plans and did not have time to go to the other hotel with all my belongs and figure out, such an inconvenience.

Excelent choice! Love everything about my stay. Great staff, clean room. Excelent location. Definitely, staying here again.
