Also, the lighting in the vanity area and the bathroom area is insufficient given the dark color of the walls, carpet and the tile. The lightbulbs should be switched to full spectrum natural light rather than the dull yellow light bulbs. It was extremely difficult to see normally in the room. Also the electricity was flickering extensively. There's either a short or inadequate power to support the building. I do recommend this motel but it would definitely be a major enhancement to get the lighting sorted out so it is accommodating the needs of the customer rather than some unknown preference that the management might have. The front staff personnel were very friendly and delightful to work with. I would stay again, but I prefer that these few things be resolved.

Great place to stay close to CA101, an easy walk into town to lots of shops abs restaurants, short drive to the beach. Room was clean and comfortable. Great stay!

Air conditioning worked but was noisy- see the theme here? Don’t stay here if you want rest. Total third-world hotel. No parking past 9pm. No security. Don’t book unless you have view of the parking. ** was clean- shower was good. Room was 2010 equivalent/value.

This hotel, should be classified as a motel. I had much higher expectations based on the star rating and regret my decision based on many other options at this price point. The room smelled clean, but the outside corridor and carpet in the room was filthy. My son said he couldn't get a good night sleep in the bed because there was sand or grit in it. Upon checking in, we were notified that we would be charged $5 per key if we didn't return, them and if we were late past 11am checkout, we would be charged $50 per hour. My daughter said she felt like she should wear shower shoes in the shower, and that this might be the worst hotel she has stayed at, and that's saying a lot! This motel feels like the low cost airlines of motels, and should be priced closer to $150 than the $300 we paid. The location is convenient to downtown, which is its only redeeming quality.

Great location and great value for the price.

Clean motel with a very helpful and friendly staff. They checked us in far after closing time when our train was delayed. Good location downtown, a bit of a hike on foot (12-15 min) to the center of downtown. Right next to the freeway ramps so very convenient driving access. Bathroom was functional, everything worked, but why do they locate the towel rack all the way on the far wall of the room from the shower?? The site is entirely occupied by parking lot; no green space or outdoor sitting area.

Located directly at the lower (west) end of downtown SLO, this was a perfect home base for extensive walking tours of the historic Mission and beyond. Clean rooms, recently upgraded, easy parking, very friendly staff, all you want in a vacatiin home base for a night or two!

The location was ideal at the end of the main downtown street, so easy to leave the car at the hotel and walk downtown. Location is right off the 101 so super fast to get on and off the highway. The room had two nice double beds, good pillows and linens. The design was modern and felt comfortable. Door could use a hinge lock to supplement the stadard door lock for safety, but we did still feel safe being on the first floor.

There is some charm to the room, it’s very clean and quiet with good a/c. Not a fancy place but great if you want to stay in a nice place in a great location and not spend a fortune. There’s a fantastic bakery just down the street and walking distance to shops, restaurants and museum. Had to spend an extra night and chose to stay here for the above amenities. Plus housekeeping freshens rooms daily! Recommend.

It is a clean hotel, no bells and whistles but we have stayed 3 times now and have been satisfied with the price and location.

The staff were nice and helpful when we checked in and our room was clean. It was hot so we appreciated that the AC worked very well. I’d stay here again.

This hotel is in heart of downtown San Luis Obispo. The owners are very gracious and so accommodating. The property is exceptional, very clean and well maintained. I will definitely go back. If anyone is considering going to SLO I would very highly recommend this property. You will be more than happy you did.

Very clean and comfortable room. A bit on the small side but we only planned to sleep overnight and leave the next day. This property was very close to the wedding venue we attended so it was convenient. We would return to the Avenue Inn.
