The hotel and staff were both great

Great location right in the park. So close to to see concerts at SPAC. You can access the Victorian Pool which also has a little restaurant on site. The room bathrooms are super dated and the room was fine. Not luxury but fine for a couple of nights.

We first checked in and had NO bath towels . I told the front desk. They did arrive later in the night. We attempted to go to the pool before our concert and the lifeguard said it was shut down for a half hour. Disappointing! We had to eat, so we didn’t have time to go back to the pool. Final note, our next door neighbors came back after the show at about 11:30 and were SO loud we couldn’t sleep. The walls are paper thin. Overall, not a great experience!

My husband and I were here for a concert, hotel was older but beautifully maintained. Check in was great, parking was easy. The elevator stopped working, but again we understand the age of the hotel and disregarded the inconvenience. I wish i had more time here to learn the history and explore. We will definitely be back! Unfortunately upon check out I purchased a mountain dew in the lobbys convenience store area, i opened it took a sip to find out not only was it flat but there was particles floating in the bottle. The young man at the front counter was very apologetic and quickly offered a complimentary water for me. No fault of his own the hotel should be aware of expired beverages, i was unable to find one on the bottle.

I hate to write this review as I love this hotel. Years ago I worked at The Gideon, back when its classy and the food and service were great. I booked a one night stay for myself and my spouse. I reached out to the hotel vs expedia 3 times, no response. I called and after 3 attempts someone answered. I was told absolutely no early check-in allowed and that the dining room was open on limited days. Thankfully they were open for our stay. I made a reservation for which turned out to be an awful meal. Two of the items I wanted, on the limited menu, were not avaliable. I settled for a vegetable platter, which consisted of limp broccoli, old carrots and somewhat slimy peppers. My husband's burger wasnt much to brag about either. The waitress never came back to check on our meals and overall service was poor. We left go to the show at SPCA, returned at 10:30 and everything was closed, including the bar. Upon returning to our room, I noticed our comforter was soiled. Good thing it was hot and we did not need it. I am so very sad that this is how The Gideon is run these days. This is far from the quality stay one would expect. The hotel has so much rich history and truly is a treasure, that I fear will one day close forever.

We were attending a concert at SPAC and it could not be more convenient to be able to walk to the venue and back. I will be back.

We loved reading about the history of the hotel and that their renovations kept in line with their heritage.

We love coming here, if you're lucky enough to get a room during your favorite concert it's an amazing experience! It's a five minute walk to SPAC it's a two minute walk to the Vic pool, and the grounds are absolutely amazing. If you've never been here it's modeled on I believe 19th century European architecture, as is the whole park. It's one of the prettiest places in New England, we come here every summer from Vermont for shows at SPAC.
