El Royale Hotel Near Universal Studios

Front desk closes at 10pm. Unable to check in after 10pm.

While the staff was helpful and friendly, the hotel leaves much to be desired. We were in LA during a hot and humid weekend. The air conditioner in our room functioned, but not at full capacity. It cooled the room slowly and did not have a fan setting which would have allowed us to blow in air for a bit to cool ourselves down after a hot day of adventuring. The worst part was an incessant buzzing in the walls. At first we thought it was cicadas. Then we thought there was an electrical issue because the sound would stop momentarily if we switched a light on or off. We wondered if it was a vent on the roof rattling, but never found the source of the noise. Unfortunately, the buzzing only happened at night when we were trying to sleep. The room was silent in the morning when we woke and would not return until after dark. We also experienced piles of garbage being left in front of the room. It appeared someone had been walking by when their trash bag burst open, but hadn’t bothered to clean up the mess. Do not recommend.

Great hidden gem close to Universal Studios. Nicely remodeled. Historical 1920’s vintage. I will book again.

I booked for my 19 yr daughter and wanted to use my card for deposit. I called the hotel and Robert was so helpful and allowed my daughter to use my card. They looked out for my daughter and made sure she had a safe night. Thank you Robert and the rest of the staff. Hotel is walking distance to Universal Studios so they were able to walk safely there and back.

Everything about the vibe was perfect Nothing

Appreciated they let us park there prior to check in, which is at 4pm btw The two guys that work in the front just gave me an unsettling feeling. They watched us come in and out of the property. Walking around the parking lot at late times, Just gave off creepy vibes. They woke us up super early with the loudness of a maintenance man moving trash/trash cans around the alley way next to our rooms. Couldn’t even have our shutters open because he was walking back and forth. Check in is at 4pm and checkout is 10am, those times seem a bit unfair for the price. They also had a housekeeping cart right outside of our room, two hours before checkout. Gave off a “hurry up and leave vibe” which I didn’t appreciate. I definitely won’t be staying there again. But like I said, I did appreciate they allowed us to at least park our car prior to their late check in times.

We stayed one night to go to Universal the next day and were not allowed to leave our car after checking out in the morning. That was the whole point of staying there. That was disappointing we drove to North Hollywood and took the subway into Universal.

No restaurant/bar on premises, but several in walking distance. A favorite place to stay when going to The Baked Potato. Better coffee in their lobby in the mornings, and available earlier.
