About The Allegro Royal Sonesta Hotel Chicago Loop

The Allegro’s storied history as a place of ambition, openness and joie de viver comes to life in modern day in the hotel’s glamorous vibes and refreshing charm. Located at the crossroads of Chicago’s backstory - government, theater, tech - and centered in the city’s beating heart, the hotel itself is well over 100 years old. Our story is rooted in the boldness of spirit that centers Chicago in practicality and ambition. The immigrant Eitel brothers purchased the hotel and, in 1924, acquired the rest of the entire south side of Randolph Street from LaSalle to Wells. With characteristic Chicago bravado, they raised and rebuilt the whole block to match their optimistic vision of the future including a 22-story office building, 2500-seat Palace Opera Theater and a 19-story hotel complete with exquisite details - including our striking marble staircase that still welcomes guests today. This vision of glamor and elegance welcomed all that was novel and new. Our four walls have hosted Vaudeville stars, tapped the first keg post-Prohibition and played headquarters to political change makers, jazz legends and movie stars. This is where you come in. Today, you’ll find no stodgy museum full of dusty historical treasure and tributes to the past. The Allegro is where vintage energy comes alive with Art Deco exuberance. Step up the sweeping staircase into the bustling Grand Lobby and feel the palpable energy of the roaring twenties. A spirit of beauty and optimism is everywhere. The decor. The historic details. The joyful service. Whether it’s champagne and popcorn in the lobby or the evening’s witty ‘Curtain Call’ cart with treasures to help you journey into dreamtime, you’ll find even the most un-thought of needs addressed by our considered details and insightful service. We can't wait to welcome you into our vibrant world to boldly create your own Chicago story, with your stay as the backdrop of the adventure.

Outdated except for TV and bed.

Room was ok but cramped. Closet was tiny. The bigger issue was the keycard system was down when I checked in and had to wait > 1 hr to get my key card. Otherwise an ok stay. Would prefer if they had a coffee machine in the room.

The property was old and defiantly not 4 star hotel. At best its a 3 Star hotel. Location was great

Very old poorly maintained old hotel. Restaurant is close on Sundays and Mondays! Bedding was good and comfortable. Staff were nice. Very overpriced for the time we were there.

    good

The soundproofing is terrible. I could clearly hear people in the adjacent room, people talking in the hallway, the elevator, and even the train outside. It was very difficult to get a good night’s sleep. There is also no tea or coffee maker in the room. Instead, the hotel provides tea and coffee in the lobby, but it is only available until 10:00 a.m. Housekeeping started knocking on my door at 8:00 a.m., even on my checkout day, which was unnecessary and disruptive. I am an Expedia Gold member, but I was not offered any room upgrade. Overall, this hotel did not meet my expectations, and I would not recommend it.

Overall, decent experience. It was so by lots of activities and landmarks.

Only two things stood out as slightly negative. The walls are not very soundproof. I could hear a couple having an argument in one room and in another, people laughing. It didn't keep me from falling asleep and my husband didn't wake up from it so I found it minor. The other thing that was a minor inconvenience was their restaurant hours didn't work out for me. But in Chicago there's so many restaurant options. So again minor.

It was our first time touring in Chicago. We are from San Francisco. Loved this hotel! The lobby is beautiful. It has a great restaurant and bar. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely stay here again.

Loved the vibe. Very moody and art deco. The layout is a little strange with the actual hotel lobby on the second floor. I might have missed signage, but it would have been nice to know ahead of time to avoid confusion. My son and I arrived around 2pm expecting to have to store our luggage and kill some time before our room was available, but we were pleasantly surprised with the option to check in early which was extremely appreciated. We knew the room would be small, but it was REALLY small. Only one person could squeeze by the end of the bed at a time, so it was pretty tight. The trim and furniture were really scuffed and could use a paint job, but the room itself was very clean and stylish. The shining gem of this place is the Legato Lounge. Our first experience was a 10/10. We had excellent service (my son has food allergies and they were very accommodating) and the food was amazing. Our second time was not as good, though. We got seated in the bar area when there were tables still open and we basically got forgotten about. It looked like there was only one server, one host, and one busboy, so maybe they were short-staffed, but we were in a bit of a hurry and had to hunt down someone for the check after waiting quite a while. The food was still excellent, though. It was an enjoyable stay, but while I’m glad we stayed here, I will probably try somewhere else the next time we’re in town.

Disappointed that they oversold and did not have the correct room available for us -- and were downgraded to a smaller room for the entire stay even though we booked months in advance. Rooms were average and bathroom was very small. The hotel tried to add a room service charge to our bill that was not ours as well.

Parking was pricey, but worth it.

    Breakfast was great.

    Horrible - just don’t.

We got caught in the rain and a laundry facility would have been helpful. Otherwise, the hotel was amazing.

The Jr King Suite was spacious and clean. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the room was well designed. The location of the hotel is convenient to several theaters, fast casual and nicer restaurants, as well as shopping. The Hotel Allegro is nice for a couple or family stay.

Great location with nice rooms and charming decor/theme. Didn’t eat at the restaurant but the cocktails were good.
