A lovely hotel, the staff were all so friendly and helpful. Room was spotless and comfortable and the bathroom was fabulous. Location is great too.

My husband and I were visiting for a week and they put us in a room that overlooked a construction area so we woke up in the morning to jackhammers which lasted until at least noon. It seems outrageous that they didn’t warn us that rooms on our side had what most people would consider to be an intolerable amount of noise , and offer to discount the rooms or relocate us. A few days into our stay, I complained and they said they could relocate us, but by then we had settled into the room and didn’t want to deal with it. When I asked if they could refund us for even a small portion of the room, they said because the construction was not on their property (but it abuts their property and was directly below our window) they couldn’t do that. Because of this, it’s unlikely I will stay there, even though I liked the actual hotel and room.

We traveled to Chicago for my daughter’s 11th birthday and decided to go with Viceroy as it appeared kid friendly with the candy cart, pool and board games. I reached out to the management team a month or so prior to my arrival as I wanted the room to be set up nicely for my daughter’s birthday. I was told that an event planner would reach out but they never did. During check in, I stressed that it was my daughter’s birthday and nothing was done to enhance our experience. The hotel looks nothing like the pictures. There is construction right next door and the front of the hotel is overrun by rats. The pool closes at 5pm and there is no music or food/bar open or a bathroom for that matter. The area near the pool needs maintenance. I was so disappointed in our experience with this hotel. I would not recommend staying there if you want a place to relax in after a long day of sight seeing.

3rd party websites show that they have EV chargers in their parking garage which they do not. Their pool was not in working order. Management was unfriendly and unfair when dealing with these two issues.

The room was nice and spacious, the closet was great. Also, I always like when hotels have a scale in the bathroom. I ordered room service the first day, and got transferred to three different people. Not sure if it was just a weird time for service (4:30pm) or if they were a bit understaffed. But it felt like they didn't have enough people to respond to requests. Later in my stay, I requested some things (toothbruth, toothpaste) and they were brought up quickly. So it could have just been an off day.

The best thing going for this property is the location. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. The room and overall property felt dated. The room was not cleaned very well.

Rooms are nice. Lobby is nice. Location is great. You don't leave enough water in the rooms and I ended up dehydrated.

Convenient location, boutique style felt like mini studio Pool closed early, not many amenities, skimped on the bedding. Literally a thin sheet and thin comforter, not even a mattress cover or mattress pad. I expected more.

Room - 8.5/10 - it was fine. No complaints. Not super nice. Food/drink -9/10 Pool - 6/10 The hotel location can’t be beat. Everyone who works there is nice. I overpaid because I wanted a rooftop pool. It is tiny and the pool patio deck is so basic. There are very limited lounge seats and they aren’t nice or anything. The pool was filled with kids which is fine I guess. No good music or vibe. There is a tiny bar at the pool and the bartender was very nice and made good drinks. They could make the pool deck nice with nicer furniture and music. It was disappointing. Overall, I feel like I paid way too much for what I got.

Cons: Room smelled like pets, very stinky smell. The furniture and decor was mostly wood that looked very chipped and outdated. Very dark lightning throughout the hotel, and especially the room. They do have different light settings but still didn’t feel well lit. The shower has this big glass door that only covers half the shower. The other half is open and water leaks all over the bathroom. Have to shower with the shower head turned toward the wall to keep the water from leaking. My view was an alley with big garbage bins. Was a bit noisy at night from all the bar hoppers. The hotel has potential but needs a major upgrade in the rooms.

From the front desk check-in being awful to the rude evening bartender at somerset to the pool closing at 5 pm, to the dirty room, to promises never kept. Won’t be back. The hotel has lost its charm. And unfortunately they know it.

My shower knob was jammed so the maintenance crew had to come twice for me to shower.
