The Vurpillat Beachfront Hotel

No actual front desk/reception that is attended at all times. Made the check in process a lot harder

It is on the Strand in Hermosa Beach, and a short walk to shops and restaurants as well as the Hermosa Pier. The windows need an upgrade

This should definitely be viewed as more of a hostel than a hotel. The staff was friendly and super nice and the location is unbeatable but the room and the building are pretty dated. Our room didn’t have AC so we cracked the windows that didn’t have screens and got munched by mosquitoes all night. The shower and bathroom were so small it definitely reminded me of a European hostel setup. The price is right though for the location.

Love the location and the vibe. But under some renovation at time and so kind of old ugly on outside. So cute and old school inside. Loved our stay.

The location is awesome. It is right on the strand and close to the pier. The attendant was friendly and knowledgeable at check in. The hotel has an interesting history. The hotel has been painted and decorated nicely.... But that is really only surface. It has not been updated. The hotel is not in good shape. There are holes in the walls! Our window in our room was broken and unable to be closed. The water did not get hot for our shower, and all the drains were slow causing a backup of water every time we used a sink or shower. There are no towel racks in the bathroom or basic shelving for toiletries/ things. The shower itself is small and awkward with a shower curtain surrounding the entire shower. This made it very difficult to use. We only showered once during our stay!! Most of the time there is no one at the desk. There is no Lobby, no coffee or snacks available. It is a great location...but the hotel itself is not great. There is NO PARKING! We needed more towels but never saw anyone to ask.

The location truly couldn’t be better. You’re literally steps from beautiful Hermosa Beach, with an amazing walking and biking path, volleyball courts, great cafés, bike rentals, and everything you could want. The atmosphere is so relaxed and welcoming—it feels like you’re in a completely different world from the hustle of Los Angeles. The owner was one of the highlights of my stay. Friendly, welcoming, easygoing, and genuinely cares about making guests feel at home. I also have to mention the bed—I slept like a baby every single night! My room had everything I needed, including a full-size refrigerator, gas stove, toaster, coffee maker, and a well-stocked kitchen with all the essentials for cooking a meal. One of my favorite parts was the outdoor seating area. I enjoyed my morning coffee there every day and even shared a few evening drinks while chatting with neighbors who quickly became friends. The mix of short-term guests and long-term residents creates such a warm, home-like atmosphere that’s hard to find anywhere else. This place is a hidden gem. It combines the comfort of an apartment with the convenience of a hotel, all in one of the best locations in Hermosa Beach. I can’t recommend it enough, and I’ll definitely be back. Thank you for making my stay so memorable!

My elderly travelers needed a parking spot to be close to the property. An on-site special parking (by request) was granted, and even a wheelchair was also provided to us with no additional charge. The owner and his hotel staff were so friendly and very helpful. Enjoyed the two separate bedrooms with a kitchen. The history of the hotel was fascinating. Just loved the stay with the grand view of the Hermosa Beach!

The location is perfect. However when we originally booked we didn’t realize the hotel and the building next to it were still under renovation. Our room had no air or a fan or even a trash can. We found dirty towels hanging on the bathroom door from the previous guests. The lack of transparency of where the hotel renovations and next door were not cool. You can find a better spot. Don’t waste your money

Jay is awesome. They are in the middle of renovations so it was a bit of a mess but clean. The sheets smelled great. Can’t beat the location!!!

Would give this property 5 stars for location and kitchen but it is a little rough around the edges. The value is there to return however.

Great location. Super nice staff. Rooms are clean and comfortable but old and showing significant wear and tear. Good for budget seekers who don’t mind aged accommodations.

Early check-in was free No such thing as valet parking tho Parking was free after waiting for a hour for it The room looked clean but the arm chair was stained, white curtains stain, the shower head is vintage super cool but it’s pretty nasty since the shower head is completely green from copper , mold something The restroom tub has a wrap around curtain since the wall isnt lined or tile. Felt tight no way u can stand inside the tube and not have the curtain touching you. Not one fire alarm No paper towels in the kitchen 1 free water bottle 1 creamer for one coffee lol Reservations were for two And lastly the noise -ROOM 101 is zero privacy right next to the front desk Paper thin walls , 2-3 inches from the front door gap let’s u hear everything Windows are very outdated A stick is used for locking the window No noise control People were sitting in the front of our windows (the ocean view ) pretty much all night so sleeping was difficult, lack of privacy. No ac , so we had to leave the windows slightly open Great location just needs a lot of work on tne actually building

An older building with the bathrooms having some peeling on the baseboards and paint due to moisture. The overall room was very quaint and the staff were enthusiastic about helping. Initially when entering the hotel there is a lot of remodeling occurring as well as furniture misplaced, but the space is very authentic and has so much potential .

Excellent location and price. My original.room.wasnt ready on time sonthey upgraded me to a bigger suite. Staff was great. Would stay again.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Vurpillat. The hotel is a charming vintage building and it’s great that the owners are taking care to respect its history and character. We stayed for a week as a family of 5 with 3 small kids in the studio room. It worked well for us with a kitchen and two beds as well as space for a pack n play. The room had been partially updated and the beds were comfortable. Ours did not have a view, but we didn’t mind since the beach is literally at the doorstep of the hotel. We appreciated the availability of a neighborhood parking permit for our rental car. We never had a problem finding parking, but there are also paid spots available next to the hotel. This is a vintage building with a relaxed vibe and an excellent value for its location. To anyone complaining that it is a “flop house” they do not claim to be a 5 star resort. It’s a cute place full of character with clean rooms and friendly staff right on the beach. We will certainly stay here again next time we visit our family in the area.
