The Moana Surfrider is such a pleasure to stay at. When you're in Hawaii, you want an oceanfront property and the Moana has a great location on the strip. You're on the oceanfront so you can go to the beach any time you like, then take a dip in the pool after. Food and shopping are walking distance and there's plenty of places to go. Water is provided daily in your room and housekeeping is helpful, courteous, efficient, and friendly. Housekeeping will also refill the coffee pods and tea bags in your room as well that are also provided for free. There are three wings, the tower, banyan, and surfrider wings. We generally stay in the surfrider wing in an oceanfront room. The oceanfront rooms have a lanai with rocking chairs so that you can enjoy a coffee and the sunrise while overlooking the ocean and sleep to the sound of the crashing waves. Depending on which room you're in in the tower wing, you'll either get a a view of the sunrise, sunset, or both. The tower and surfrider wings have balconies/lanais if you have an ocean view room. The banyan wing does not provide either for any of the rooms. Towels are provided for the pool and the beach and you can also reserve an umbrella for the beach if you desire. All the staff at the Moana are friendly and helpful. We've stayed at three other hotels in Waikiki, but always go back to the Moana Surfrider.

Resort was excellent in every way

This resort was excellent in every way,

After contacting the front desk, the only option offered was to pay an additional $1,200 to upgrade to a larger ocean-view room. While the room was bigger, the bathroom was still outdated, the shower pressure remained very weak, and the bathroom itself was still very small. The pool officially opens at 7:00 a.m., but by 6:00 a.m. guests had already placed towels on the chairs to reserve them, making it nearly impossible to find a seat. We also learned that beach cabanas and lounge chairs needed to be reserved about two weeks in advance and were nearly twice the price of renting them directly on the beach. This information was never communicated before our stay. We also paid a $320 resort fee, but it was difficult to see the value. The only amenity we actually used was the beach towels. Overall, this hotel did not meet our expectations and did not live up to the standard we’ve experienced at other Westin hotels. Based on our experience, I would not recommend staying here.

Staying at the Surfrider always made me feel refreshed, relaxed, peaceful and very happy! It's a perfect place to just destress. It's an amazing wonderful fantastic safe place to be for a solo traveler like me. The staff are amazing and helpful. I always feel very pampered. The breakfast buffet is so YUMMY!

More rental options for cabanas.

Housekeeping doesn’t even clean the room . No beach chairs , no umbrella . You only have to rent them for $400 per day or go to other beach rentals near by .

Horrible check in — would not take our car — had to drive for 1.5 hours through 2 public garages to fight to find a spot and pay $60 for overnight parking. Further, the gentleman in the valet was very rude and had difficulty communicating. Still further, the check in for the room was slow, and they automatically and inappropriately “upgraded” (not an upgrade ) us to the tower when I had purposefully booked rooms in the main building , but since I was parking the car while my family checked in they did not know any better. It was not a good experience.

There were not enough elevators operating at the same time. It would take several stops, on different floors, from 18th floor to get to the lobby. A bit annoying. There were sometimes 14 people in one elevator.

The location and history of the hotel is amazing. The grounds are immaculate. The staff, from the front desk, valet, housekeeping, restaurants, and other areas were amazing. Always helpful and smiling. Centrally located to all shops in Waikiki.

We had 2 rooms with a city view. 1 room had a sliver of a view of the city. This room was also poorly designed - no space for much. There was a smell of mold and nothing in the room dried. All our bathing suits stayed DAMP. It got to the point where we were bringing our clothes out to the beach to dry. I paid 10k for both room. The wifi didn’t even reach the end of the ON SITE POOL. Would not recommend - stay at the Royal Hawaiian instead!
