Portola Hotel & Spa at Monterey Bay

Staff is great, the food is always good and the rooms are clean, comfortable, safe and welcoming.

It was clean and quite, Walking distance to the pier and downtown.

Great rooms, fantastic location that's easily walkable to old fisherman's wharf and the summer trolley. On-site hotel offered to go which was nice when we were exhausted at the end of the day. Pool and parking garage are a 2 minute walk from the main hotel across the little row of eateries and the candy shop. Would stay here again

Better service

Location is great, a little goofy with parking and it is not cheap. Swimming pool not easily accessible, you have to go back outside towards parking garage. Fun pirate adventure for kids if you ask for it.

Compared to other hotel options, not worth the price.

Overall, a great choice for a short stay in Monterey. Lovely property, good location, clean rooms, beautiful views, close to the touristy things, great restaurant in the lobby (no room service though). The only complaint I have is the check-in process. We arrived approximately 1 hour after check-in time and waited quite a while for our room (45-60 minutes). The lobby was filled with other guests also waiting for their rooms, kids running around, luggage allover. Nobody should have to wait for their room in a hotel at this level after check-in time. A pleasant surprise was valet parking- I had called ahead to see if they had valet parking and I was told they did not. I would stay again, but not at their usual rate.

Nice hotel. Great location. Rooms were spacious, if a little dated. Facilities staff were terrific when called upon late at night to address an issue.

Really enjoyed our stay

This place was great! It was my boyfriend, our dog and myself. Such a great property. So close to literally everything! Jacks was great.. servers were all awesome! Would go again!

Always our go to place to stay

We arrived a little after 2p.m. with our two kids, and the staff kindly allowed us to check in early. The location is fantastic—just a 5-minute walk to Fisherman's Wharf. It was also very convenient to have Crepes of Brittany right next to the hotel, making it easy to grab a delicious breakfast or snack. The hotel also has a nice pool and Jacuzzi. The pool was a little on the cool side, but the Jacuzzi was perfect for relaxing. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend this hotel to families visiting Monterey.

Clean room and good location but charged for breakfast despite the room booking should have included breakfast and this took a lot of arguing to ammend

Overall, this is an old hotel. The room is in need of renovation. The walls and bathroom need updating, and the beds were uncomfortable because you could feel the springs through the mattresses. The air conditioning was very loud, and there was a lot of pet hair on the carpet in the room.
