Portola Hotel & Spa at Monterey Bay

The property was great. We only interacted with valet and they were awesome

Upon arrival, Bell was very helpful. Walking in, the lobby had an off putting sewer smell that either went away or got accustomed to. Check in staff was not too friendly but did her job I guess. Stay: room and areas were keep well and felt very comfortable. There was a scheduled power outage that was not relayed until day of. Was not provided correct information that led to a less than comfortable night, however the property did make up for it. Parking was convenient. Overall, we had a very good stay at Portola. Staff could be a bit more friendly .

Need indoor instead of outdoor pool. Otherwise it’s great!

The view from our room was a roof. The flat roof with rocks so that was not enjoyable. The room was clean and staff friendly though

Horrible soundproofing, we could hear every person coming and going and every time the doors opened all night long. And it opened many many times. We were woken up at 6am on a Saturday morning by loud noises near the door and staff dragging heavy carts. 6 am!!!! On a Saturday. Staff didn’t seem to care and said “there’s nothing they can do about people leaving the room or suitcases” well, how about do a better job soundproofing. This is not a 4 star property. We could also hear our neighbors and their baby all night long and any abs every conversation in the hallway. Very, very disappointing. Beds were also uncomfortable and room is dated. Not the amenities and service I would except for a hotel charging these prices. While checking out I mentioned it again to front desk staff, and was met with a very dismissive and unapologetic “yeah there’s lots of construction now “ I clarified it wasn’t construction noise, it’s the terrible location of the room and lack of soundproofing. We will never return and I wish we stayed in Carmel, where the price is justified by the price and amenities.

Very clean establishment right at the center of town and a short walking distance from the wharf. Highly recommend especially if you plan to use their spa services

Clean beautifully appointed room, lovely restaurant and Carmel Coffee/Bake Shop. Nice plaza outside to sit for sites and sounds, Alvarado Street right there, for more walkable restaurants and the Wharf on the opposite side of Portola. Great location for easy access to all of Monterey.

Wonderful stay. Was only there one night and wish it would have been longer! Great location.

One thing that was not said upon checking in is that you need your room key to exit the parking. That’s something that should be said when checking in and agreeing to pay the $25 self parking. Lovely hotel but not worth the price unless you’re planning on walking only to the wharf.
