Carlton Arms Hotel

Exceptional

First of all, the best thing about this hotel is the location, which is excellent. Safe area in Midtown Manhattan, many metro stations nearby and all the tourist attractions are easily reachable. Secondly, the staff was very helpful. We booked a room with shared bathroom, but we received a free upgrade when we checked in there and we got a private bathroom - that was very kind. The city is very noisy through the night too and sometimes it felt like we were outside even though the window was closed. We used some earplugs for sleeping. We had a plumbing issue in the toilet one morning. They gave us another room and we had to switch rooms so that the problem could be fixed.

This is in a great location, easy to get uptown or downtown, it's a short walk from the main avenues and the resident cat is cute

This place has a lot of character with all the walls painted with murals. The manager, Andrew, was very friendly and helpful. The room was simple but met all my needs. The hotel is in a good neighborhood, close to shops and bars. I only stayed the one night due to my schedule but when I'm back in New York, I will stay here longer. The property has shared bathrooms, and multiple flights of stairs. If those aren't your thing, this might not be the best fit, but otherwise it was a great stay!

The staff was incredibly kind. I had communicated with someone over message prior to our stay and they were quick to answer and accommodation. They also let us check in early during the storm. I felt safe knowing there was a code to get inside the building, and you had to be let in otherwise. The linens felt very clean and we had plenty of soap. For the price and location, it is an overall fine deal. The only thing was that the sink, shower and toilet were older and the room overall had a less than shabby feeling to it. It wasn’t extremely dirty, but plenty of dust in the room on everyday things and the sink was outside the bathroom and had rust all over in. It was not well lit either.

Location is excellent, staff were friendly (particularly weekend staff), lovely cat and quirky look. Issue with room and was eventually moved. Tired and old rooms but not even in a historic way - cleanliness could've been much better. At one point door knob literally came off in my hand trapping me in the room for 30 mins. Next room I was moved to had toilet leaking.

I booked the hotel rather last minute for my daughter who was coming into town to see a Broadway show. I mistakenly booked it for the following year!! I spoke with the hotel on the day of, then they called back to clarify the mistake, they were booked solid but were able to put them up anyways, over and above for this nervous mom! I cannot say enough about how kind and accommodating they were to this unique but fraught situation!

Great ambiance, but very old and rustic building. It took me a little while to get used to it but then I loved it. Beautiful interior and nice staff. .

The Carleton Arms was everything it was advertised to be. The staff was friendly as well as other the guests/residents. The staff accommodated my request for a room on lowest floor. The available room was not one of the "artistic" rooms but it was clean and the bed comfortable. There was nothing I disliked.

I like the paintings on the wall of the room and that the decorations had charm. The bathroom wasn’t cleaned and smelled like urine, and the air conditioning unit in the room was blowing pigeon feathers into the room (which I took photos of).
