Vagabond Inn Costa Mesa

Arrived at 11pm (drove from Az) woke up to use the restroom and turned on the lights there were roaches on the floor! I had my babies sleeping and I didnt want to wake them since it was past midnight, went to the office in the morning and the office lady offered me another room she gave me the key so I can check it out prior to staying and I unlock it and there were people in it !! They were upset as I was i went back pissed and she took me to another 3 rooms 1 of them she tried to kick out dead roaches out the door while I wasn't looking this was crazy! It was 4th of july weekend so prices were sky high now as I booked in advance I had to take a room .I couldnt unpack etc she offered a discount after I checked out she was trying to give me $9!?!?! I couldnt believe it DO Not stay here!! Hotels.com gave me a good credit for all thier mess. I cant believe they offer breakfast and they keep the food in an unoccupied room next to the rooms theres roaches in! I stayed in 117 then moved to 124 just be aware!

We booked two rooms here and both rooms were pretty bad. We are all avid world travelers and have never stayed in such poor conditions. Both rooms had substantial black hair in and on the beds and several dead june bugs on the floor. There are cobwebs along the outside staircases and one room had to actually be switched because of the filth. The other room also had cigarette burns on the blanket. Both sinks showed significant rust on chipped surfaces and the towels are the thinnest, scratchiest things I’ve ever used. Bring shower shoes (I didn’t use the shower but I definitely didn’t go barefoot in the room either, also brought my own pillow which I highly suggest if you must stay here). The outlets couldn’t even held our phone chargers- they were all loosely barely held in or had to be supported by other objects since they kept falling out of the poor-fitting electrical sockets. We knew that it wasn’t a great hotel based on reviews but it was worse than expected.

A very ran down room with old tobacco smell. It felt like drug used room. Cigarettes burns all over the floor . A/C in poor functioning state. For a $170 it was a Terri le experience. This place is due for a remodling for price justifications.

Good property to stay overnight

The property is very poorly maintained and managed. The rooms are filthy and smells. No soap, shampoo or conditioner. The bathroom is in very bad shape and the room door has mold. Worst stay reservation I have ever had.

Room was clean, neat and well stocked with necessities... Comfortable bed with lots of fresh and fluffy pillows. In room coffee was surprisingly good...... No hot water and really low water pressure in bathroom the first day because the sink faucet was broken. Maintenance guy fixed it the next day and there was hot water, but water pressure was still very low and it came out at a trickle. However, water pressure for bath/shower and toilet was fine....There was no thermostat control for the air conditioner, only an on/off switch, so it was either too hot or too cold. No explanation of how to control room temperature...Bedside lamp on one side did not work... Intermittent, weird squalling noise seemed to come from inside the walls or from the maintenance room, which was next door to my room. Rough and poor repair work to doors and door jam, which looked shoddy, but did not affect anything important.... No ice to be had from either of the ice machines. I saw people filling ice chests, leaving none for the rest of the guests, which was annoying... Overall it was OK for the price and I'd probably stay there again.

Dislikes: A $50 security deposit for possible damages or smoking was charged my card on June 26th. I was informed my card would be credited on June 28, immediately after housekeeping checked the room. As of June 29th, it has not been credited to my card. Poor continental breakfast. In the remodel no permanent hook was installed in the bathroom for hanging clothes while showering. This needs to be corrected. A tissue dispenser was in the wall. It had no tissues. When I requested tissues at the desk, the attendent said he would inform housekeeping. I also left a note in English and Spanish for housekeeping. Upon my return to the room, there were no tissues in the dispenser. Either remove the dispenser or supply tissues.

Our room smelled like a crime scene had been covered up, the smell of bleach was so powerful my girlfriend couldn't sleep

The looked run down, the bed felt like if I was sleeping on the ground. The tv remote didn’t work, parking was VERY horrible

The house keepers did an amazing job keeping the place tidy. They really did well with presentation of the towels , wash cloths and napkins in making decorative styles. Also making sure we had enough supplies. Roger the attendant who checked us in was very welcoming. The location is very good. It is in close proximity to the highway and nextdoor to the busy In and Out Burger restaurant. Also about 15 minutes away from SNA airport, 8 minutes drive to a Walmart, and 17 minutes walk away from Lucy’s Laundromat . CVS is also close by, among other fast food places such as Chick fil a ( 2 minutes walk). There is a pool and hot tub accessible from 0800- 2200hrs, continental breakfast and a nice sitting area to eat with vending machines. The bathroom and dressing room though clean, needs some renovation. The air filter was actually changed in our presence by Jesus without prompting. We would stay here again, room 223! Thank You!

Amazing staff clean room

Hot tub was dirty and Luke warm. Rooms were clean but unable to control the temperature.

bathroom was a bit scary because it was dirty, but overall had a fine time staying there.

Location was great, hot tub was amazing but the room smelled bad. We had to buy candles to burn the entire stay.

What a great little place! Our room was clean and cozy. The exterior was lush and green and lovingly cared for. The staff was super friendly, as were the long term residents. Great pool. Adequate breakfast. Highly recommend. Will definitely return.
