good experience....renovation projects done were nice...our room had many issues with basic items like electrical plugs, shower curtains an don water bottles available

Very disappointing stay. This place tries to be fancy, but it’s really like putting lipstick on a pig. Dirty towels, AC didn’t work one of the nights, spa was sub par (the receptionist at the spa was on the phone with her friend and put her on hold for me to pay). The pool had no towels - I had to ask, the railing going into the pool was broken and floating in the water. Everytime I was walking past the front desk, there was someone there complaining. This morning the guy was saying the smoke alarm was going off in his room all night, the day before a woman who had checked in said she was moving to her THIRD room because of issues in the first two. There are so many better places to stay in Newport - do not waste your money. When you pay $700+ a night, you expect a certain level of amenities/service. Probably the worst “high end” hotel experience I’ve ever had.

Pet friendly. Small but cute rooms. Lovely staff. Great bar.

Beautiful property! Was newly renovated and walkable to everything. Only downside was that our room had a weird air conditioning window setup and the bathroom sink was so small / there was a shelf above it so it was very awkward to use the sink to brush your teeth, wash your face, etc

  • Engine customer Jun 2026

The newly renovated room was shockingly small. The sink was so tiny that it was difficult to even brush your teeth comfortably. For a hotel charging premium rates in Newport, the room felt more like a budget property than a luxury hotel. The biggest issue, however, was the air conditioning. The room remained over 77 degrees throughout the night because the AC was not functioning properly. Unfortunately, we discovered the issue too late in the evening, and the windows barely opened, making it impossible to cool the room naturally. The result was an extremely uncomfortable and sleepless night. The hotel provided only a $50 credit, which does not come close to compensating for an $800 stay in an overheated room. Perhaps most disappointing is that I reached out directly to hotel management before posting this review to give them an opportunity to address the situation. Unfortunately, my outreach went unanswered. Newport offers many outstanding hotels. At this price point, guests should expect a comfortable room, working air conditioning, and responsive customer service. Sadly, our experience fell far short of those expectations, and we would not return.

The newly renovated Viking hotel was beyond amazing. The rooms were comfortable and very well appointed with wonderful amenities ....love the robes! The overall smell in the halls, the rooms , the lobby area was incredible. The roof deck was delightful with plenty of fire-pit seating. We thoroughly enjoyed Spa Fjor - the 80 min. massages were beyond wonderful and relaxing. My favorite part was spending time with Stephanie and Diane in the Skoal Room. KUDOS to these two bartenders in taking our experience to another level of fun and enjoyment. I will highly recommend the Viking to friends & family and I can't wait to return.

After what was clearly an expensive renovation, it's hard to believe anyone actually spent a night in these rooms before approving the design. The result looks modern but is amazingly impractical. The bathroom sink is tiny, but the real problem is the metal shelf welded to the mirror only about 12 inches above it. You literally can't lean over to wash your face or spit after brushing your teeth without hitting your head. The shelf also makes it impossible to fill the room's water carafe or a reusable water bottle. To solve that, the hotel created water refill stations in utility closets. Mine wasn't even on my floor, and several times I found it locked. The room has no overhead light. Instead, a motion sensor controls the bedside lamp. Mine didn't work until maintenance fixed it. Then I discovered the outlet for my phone charger shut off when the sensor detected no movement overnight. Since there's no bedside clock, I woke up to a dead phone. The bathroom door has a large glass window, and another faulty motion sensor left the bathroom light on all night. We hung towels over the glass just to sleep. For nearly $600 a night, I'd expect someone to have actually lived in these rooms before approving this renovation.

The bar and the breakfast (decor, beverage, and food)were excellent. However, the room and bathroom were substandard and over priced. It was the smallest room we ever stayed in. The queen size bed (excellent linens and pillows) was comfortable however it filled the space and there was no chair to sit on therefore one needed to sit on the bed to use the desk, watch TV and tie shoes. The bathroom was tight and non functional. To enter the shower one had to go in sideways. The bathroom sink was unusable because there was a shelf that needed to be ducked under to rinse one's face and mouth after using a toothbrush. There were no hooks for towels. We were there for just one night, a return visit after the renovation. When we questioned why we were given that room, we were told it was a manor room. Who would think a room with a queen bed would be so tiny. Be prepared to valet park and pay $46 for overnight parking.

    Great hotel!

Great location! Within walking distance to the wharf - where finding parking can be a bit stressful. Excellent amenities and staff. My wife and I had 4 days of sightseeing in Newport and loved every day of it. Hotel Viking as the perfect home base to start and end our day!

    Wonderful breakfast

  • Engine customer Jun 2026

Good bar drinks, food and service. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, unfortunately. The staff seemed to not care much and lacked the proper hospitality attitude. Especially compared to the surrounding hotels in Newport where I've stayed and have felt much more welcomed compared Hotel Viking.

Excellent customer service after a weather delay brought us in late. Overall, an excellent hotel stay.

What a lovely room! It was a gorgeous hotel and had great food at their bar restaurant.

The Viking was very disappointing after the so called “renovation”. We will not be visiting the Viking again.

Great stay! We really enjoyed the hotel.

The “newly renovated hotel” was a disappointment. ac was broken and the cold water did not work only scalding. So we moved rooms across the world to one that was still open but smelled of cologne like someone had just been in there for a quickly. Staff was rude at bar. They booked the wrong massages at the spa but luckily cut the price. So expensive for the headaches.

It was a Great place to stay there.

The hotel just reopened after a renovation. We had problems with the TV, had to change rooms, the water/ice stations were not operational, the upper deck bar area was not opened and our room was not entirely cleaned two nights. The staff needs to sharpen up. The property and location are perfect, they just need to get things in order.

Stayed this past weekend and the updates and remodel to the hotel were beautiful! They did a wonderful job with the decor and overall vibe of the hotel. Rooms/ bathrooms are small, but the newness of all the furniture and finishings were a nice touch. We stayed on floor 2 and the water/ice station on floor 3 was not open/finished yet. There were caution construction signs blocking its use. Our AC also was not blowing cold air and our neighbors mentioned the same. They were advised to crack their window open. We did the same as it luckily was not a super hot night. House keeping was very kind and we were able to check in a little early which is always a plus!
