Courtyard by Marriott Oakland Downtown

Location is a block from the 12th Street BART Oakland Station so easy access (two stops) to San Francisco & back. Hotel is showing its age, the WiFi is horribly slow but rooms are renovated plus the water pressure in the shower is divine! Great alternative to the expensive accommodations in SF. Downtown Oakland is right outside this hotel, there’s coffee shops & restaurants within 2 blocks all around plus you have Oakland Chinatown & it’s many eateries, markets & bakeries a block away!

What started off as a promising stay was quickly soured into day two by a failure of my room key card. Upon check-in, the key failed to actuate the lock. Returning to the lobby imposed a physical burden due to a documented disability, yet staff admitted to systemic card issues. On day two, after gym entry, I was again locked out immediately prior to an imminent client meeting. At the front desk, I was subjected to a public dressing-down by the clerk. In front of other guests, he aggressively asserted I take "personal responsibility," making a defamatory inference that I was misrepresenting the check-in parameters. As a commercial traveler maintaining a 150-night/year schedule, I possess specialized knowledge that standard link/merge protocols seamlessly consolidate third-party reservations.Instead of acknowledging an operational failure, the clerk publicly disparaged me. Management failed to cure this breach. A "General Manager" contacted me, doubling down on the gaslighting by claiming the clerk was faultless. Oddly, in subsequent correspondence, his title shifted to "Task Force Manager," raising questions of transparent administrative oversight. Marriott’s corporate mission statement explicitly covenants guest empowerment, yet I was systematically demeaned. To compound this total failure of consideration, a $31 Bistro breakfast was served cold and unfit for consumption. "TaskForce Manger or whatever his title is offered slight compensation I have yet to see.

We enjoyed our stay at the Courtyard Marriott, the staff are nice, the place is clean. What i like the most is the location, there's so much place to eat and shop, the weekend market nearby is also great.

On site parking was expensive since there was no other option that was not great, but they did take care of the car. Wish there was a prorated amount as we had to pay for a full day (one of the days) and we only had it in for 12 hours.

There were smoking at the entrance of the building the entire time I was there. Our entire floor smelled of cigarette and marijuana it was sickening. I know for sure California is a nonsmoking state inside of hotels . My head was pounding the entire time! They didn’t clean our room or replace our towels yet I saw a person cleaning rooms on the same floor. At the end of our stay they held our bags. This is a nice property I just hated that smell throughout my stay.
