great place to stay, close to everything

There is no A/C and it was super stuffy, couldn’t leave the slider open as there’s no privacy. The windows also don’t open, so you can’t get air that way. The property is within feet of a cemetery which is creepy. We had no place to let the dogs out except right by the cemetery. I did not know this until I was already staying there.

We, my spouse and I have been coming off and on to the Lighthouse Lodge and Cottages since 2015. This time we stayed on the Cottages side. First of all, there is a giant tree root that has completely raised the pavement into jagged edges, be careful or you may pop a tire. When we came back from our dinner Saturday night, the only parking spots available were filled with old furniture and trash cans. We went to the main registration office across the street and parked in one of three registration parking spots, then went to the registration office to let the evening Reg clerk know why we were parking there. She immediately said you can't park there; I have one guest after 10PM still coming in. I explained to her I would love to park at the cottages but there were none available, and she has three empty spots here and only needs one for registration. She so rudely said, you can just park on the street. I am not parking my $85,000 new car on the street. She said they do not guarantee us parking spots, and they could charge us $25 per day to park but they don't. Finally, she said OKAY just go ahead and park here in registration for tonight. Worst customer service ever!!!!! I would pay $25 a night if I was guaranteed a parking spot. The night registration clerk's attitude was appalling. The Lighthouse Lodge cottages are very rundown. The outside has been newly painted, but the inside needs painted badly, new upholstery and crank handles on our windows would not work.

Carpet was visibly dirty in the room. Bed and pillows were uncomfortable. Balcony overlooked a cemetery which was interesting but the balcony was not clean to spend anytime out there.

Walking to the ocean view and footpath! Quiet! Bikes available for a fee.

I think I found my go-to place in Monterey! The Lighthouse Cottages is perfect for those traveling with a pet and want to stay in a quiet tree-lined neighborhood a few minutes from the ocean and downtown. I stayed in a studio cottage and it was very spacious and felt like a cabin. My favorite thing about staying here was sleeping with the fireplace going several feet away. It was so cozy! There is a small patio area outside the room where you can sit with a cup of tea, and watch deer and birds pass by. The room cleaning does not automatically happen if you stay there 3 days or less (unless requested). I appreciated the privacy and taking care of myself. Because the cottage is on the ground floor and easy to access, it was easy for Uber Eats to delivery to me. Its not a luxury hotel but more like an airbnb cabin.

Breakfast was

Hotel is obviously pretty old. Things like having to put your shoulder into the door to get it unstuck, sliding doors very rough to open and close. They have very nice brick pavers for all their driveways, but in one place (which we had no choice but to use) they were buckled so badly that I was glad we took our truck instead of our car. It's hard to give a bad review because the hotel is in such a beautiful place.

We loved the location and the area with the fire pits outside of our room. We also loved the cleaning staff and the staff that serviced the free breakfast. The dining area was very nice and the breakfast that was included was very yummy. Didn't like the gal that checked us in..she was very snotty. The room did not look like the pics on booking.com and I paid more for it. the balcony was horrible and didnt even have a table..the side view was of trash and broken down trees..there was trash in our room under out dressers that wasnt cleaned..the room had broken items in it and just didnt seem clean

Staff was friendly and very responsive. The glass front was missing from the fireplace, but the last visit was a 10.

Check in with Priscilla was smooth and easy! Had a slight issue inside my room, but Priscilla quickly took care of it! Clean, comfy room and the fire pits and hot breakfast were excellent! also love the location easy walk to the ocean. Will definitely be back!
