Comfortable bed in a quaint budget room with lavatory, but shower/toilet rooms down the hall. Good window A/C unit. Very quiet. My room was on the 3rd floor reached by fairly narrow and steep stairs, so be ready. Good free limited breakfast, free snacks at other times. Very helpful staff. Free parking in a small lot behind the hotel (no huge vehicles), plus overflow in a lot the next street over, and street parking just outside. Fast food options around the corner (only open to 9 PM), and an interesting-looking cafe right downstairs. A fun place to stay, and in my opinion, the only decent budget option in the city.

Very cool stay!

I would not recommend staying here. The entire property smelled strongly of mold from the moment we arrived, making the stay very uncomfortable. The biggest issue, however, was the cleanliness. The shared bathrooms were incredibly dirty and clearly not maintained properly. Even for shared facilities, the level of cleanliness was completely unacceptable. It felt unsanitary and neglected throughout our stay. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, and I would not stay here again or recommend it to others.

We stayed one night as a family member was in the hospital across the street. Very accommodating staff and room was quaint and clean. A very unique building, breakfast area was small, but created a community like area in the lobby.

Room was a bit too small but service

Fun atmosphere with large room.

Great place to stay!! Enjoyed our visit to Portland and the Inn was very nice !!

Stairs are steep. Room has brown indoor outdoor carpet that feels sticky. Room was wallpapered with paper that appears old and is coming apart. Shower curtain was too big and hung on shower floor. Yuck Breakfast was in a small hall area that wasn’t being attended. The good was free parking

Very steep stairs to navigate to get to the room. There is a parking lot out back but it only holds about a dozen cars so they sent us to an offsite parking lot a block away. Room was ok. Dated but comfortable. Used soap and shampoo/conditioner bottles left in the bathroom which was kinda gross. Breakfast included was nice and the location is great if going to a show at the State Theatre.

Great small city style hotel. Rooms are small but we had a large bathroom. Clean. They have coffee all day and a good continental breakfast. We were on first floor but no elevator. First floor was quiet. We had an outlet issue in our bathroom and they fixed it right away. Staff was very nice. We had an event at Hadlock field. Just a block away and parking was included at hotel.

Pleased with most everything. Only concern was that our room was up three flights of stairs. Difficult to maneuver with luggage but the staff offered to carry things so we were thankful for ther help. A bit far from downtown but the Congress St. bus is only $1 each way and just block up the street.

Parking was hit or miss in lot behind hotel. Mattress in room has a sunken area.
-
Clean, staff friendly, breakfast was ok, Continental breakfast. Keep in mind no elevator.

This hotel is a historic building and needs major upgrades. First, it doesn’t have the elevator and the stairs are too steep to climb with baggies. Second, it doesn’t have in-room bathroom. And lastly, parking is limited and have to park a block away. It provides convenient location and breakfast was full of choices.

Parking was good

This is an old historic property so there are going to be signs of it's age--but overall it was in good condition. My biggest concerns with the property were the cramped parking available behind the hotel, the very cramped bathroom in my room and the lack of places to plug in electronics. I had to move the mattress on the bed to access an outlet and unplug something so I could plug in my electronics. There is no elevator (again to be expected in a historic building) and the stairs are very steep. The free breakfast was underwhelming. I am not sorry I stayed at this hotel but if I were visiting the area again I would probably look for something different.

Great hotel and perfect for our stay. We love the location and it was very clean. We would definitely stay here again. It was part of a longer trip.

Loved this Inn, clean and staff were so friendly and helpful. Only downfall is no elevator, so if you are on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th floors, you are hiking your luggage up narrow stairs. But . . . the stay was worth it, plus one gentleman helped us with luggage. Very small breakfast area, but was good.

The Inn at St. John’s was welcoming and everything was clean though a bit run down. Our bathroom was across the hall which we found interesting. The day we arrived was unusually hot and the room was very warm. We notified an employee who pushed some buttons on the AC and said it was working. The second employee, who we called later, agreed the AC was not working but said he couldn’t do anything. We barely slept in an 83 degree room. When we checked out, we asked for compensation and were told the owner would be notified. Our emails regarding the broken AC were never answered and we never received any compensation for a very uncomfortable night at the Inn at St. John’s.
