Inn at St John Portland In-Town

Limited parking close to the building was an issue. I had to wait for a parking spot.Also some hot choice for the breakfast buffet would have been appreciated.

Coffee and cookies 24/7 was nice

No elevator. Steep stairs!

Everything was great, besides I had to climb 3 flights of stairs with a heavy suitcase to our room and it was a shared bathroom. I was not aware that it was a shared bathroom. It probably states it in the booking but I did not see it. The building is beautiful and everyone was friendly. Parking wasn't the easiest but they do provide options

The hotel was very cozy. The staff was very nice. The breakfast was great. The only downside was parking. With it being an older building on a city street the lot connected to the hotel was small but there was an overflow one block away.

The Inn is in a very rundown and unsafe area and we did not feel safe at all not even in the daytime. The rooms are not clean and there is a strange smell coming from the carpets. The breakfast was a joke, too many people and not enough room. We only stayed 1 night out of 3 and will not be returning.

We had a lovely stay at The Inn on St. John! It’s a very unique hotel with a lot of character, both inside and out. Our room was comfortably spacious and featured a fantastic shower—plus, having a jet bath was a wonderful bonus! The complimentary morning breakfast was a great touch to start the day. Parking was a little tricky, but we lucked out with a spot right under our room window, which was super convenient. Overall, a charming and very enjoyable stay in Portland!

I am surprised by the high ratings of this place. I would NOT stay here again. There is a difference between historic charm and poorly maintained. The stairs to our room were steep (historic charm). The bathroom was absolutely tiny and not clean; rust and grit everywhere. The curtains did not black out the light from the street and the electric plugs did not charge our phone after being on the charger all night. The worse part was the bed; it was bouncy. If you are use to a foam mattress this is awful. I choose this hotel a landing pad after we got in from the airport and before our drive up the coast the next day. I knew it was a budget hotel compare to others in the area, but the pictures showed historic charm and the reviews were good for a budget hotel. Wrong! The absolute worst night of sleep! We woke up exhausted; everytime once of us turned over the movement would radiate throughout the full bed. We barely got 3 hrs of sleep. I would rather stay at chain hotel next time. Pros: it was walking distance to Tandem Bakery and Bramhall Pub and they have an offsite parking lot. The staff was nice enough and the check-in check-out process was a breeze.

Room was adequate for one overnight. I understood the room size requirements, but the furniture made the space feel cramped. I was also aware there was no elevator, but that being said, theres not really a space between floors for you to stop and catch your breath on. Also it had a mild musty smell. Breakfast was bare bones but was included so thats fine. Quick 10 minutes from the airport which was nice.

The staff were wonderful and very helpful with a couple of situations we had. It's an old building with lots of charm and comfortable rooms. Some updating is needed, and it is not conducive to having a walking handicap. Overall it's a nice place for the price and location.

This is an extremely charming hotel. Great location I would stay there again 100%. To some people, it may not seem super clean because it is very old, but the charm makes up for all of it.

Very charming , close to areas we were visiting that night . Like the state theater , and street and co restaurant. We did a lot of walking and it was great ! Staff at the hotel very friendly , actually I left a shirt behind and they are going to mail it back to me . Only one issue was the hot water in the shower and they did acknowledge they have had issues with getting hot water and are working on it . I’d def go back again !

Perfect place for a couple to spend a night in the city affordably within walking distance to the important landmarks/restaurants/bars. Added bonus to be in such a quaint old building with a lot of history yet functional updates. Bed/linens extra comfy too. Would stay again if we get the chance to return!

It’s really an interesting quirky hotel in an incredibly convenient location. It’s old and the rooms are small. There’s no elevator and the stairs are quite steep. Bathroom is down the hall. The bathroom situation was fine once I worked out that the door sticks. No issues using it or having to wait. Parking lot is small but they do have an overflow lot a block away. It was a fun stay.

The room itself was surface level clean but the carpet was quite worn as were all of the fixtures, etc. The air conditioner filter clearly hadn't ever been cleaned, it was encrusted with dust. The entire hotel had a slight odor of cleaning materials. The hotel is on a main road across from the medical center so was very noisy all night. For the price they are charging I was expecting more.

Everything was good.

The Hotel was very nice. It's very old so some of stair creek. But the rooms were very clean and fairly good size for a very hotel. The staff was very nice and were very happy to help with directions to get around town. There were only a few restaurants near there within walking range. But the Thai Restaurant next door is one of the best that I've ever been too. The location is very good too as it doesn't take long to the downtown or promenade sections.
