Funky place in good location

It was very unique! Stayed in a very historical and clean home of Captain Stephen Daniels. We respected his home and learned a lot of history of Salem in our stay!
-
Our shower was in a mental old time tub that we had to bend down to rise for our shower. We shared a bathroom with another couple, the man walked in on me while I was taking a shower. There were only a few items for our breakfast Example: 2 pieces of raisin toast, 2 pieces of wheat bread, 2 pieces of white bread So there was 6 of us there at one point I think everyone liked raisin toast, it was the first to go

Difficult check in, unexpected shared bathroom and room infested with ants getting in our bed and clothing.

The room was super comfy and we Love the home! The period decor is amazing a we are grateful you shared this space with us! I wish there was a microwave, so we could bring back our doggie bags and reheat.

It’s a fantastic old house. Great place to stay if you’re looking for a unique experience in Salem

House. I love it that this type of accommodation is available and thanks to the owners for maintaining this house so well. It’s a lesson in history! Low ceilings hence not for tall people!
-
Beautiful space! The owners are very accommodating. Perfect location. Will definitely stay again!

Our room and the whole building was super clean and welcoming!
-
Walking distance to area The room hadn't been cleaned upon arrival. Once I informed them they came to tidy up surface areas only....the carpet and under the beds were horrific. The shared bathroom was literally disgusting....hair in the drains for starters.

Clearly a well managed historic inn. Gorgeous, comfortable, unique, in a very walkable area.

Our experience at the Daniels house was extremely disappointing. Having stayed at other historical houses we were shocked when we realized what we had gotten ourselves into. Even after paying for a parking permit, there was no convenient parking available on the street. The front door was temperamental when using the access code. The staircase was difficult to manage with luggage (steep and narrow). Our room was warm, thank goodness we were there in September, when it was cooler because the air conditioner was basically useless. Top all that off with a bathroom shared by two other rooms and the indifference of management, makes the price charged seem a lot like extortion.

Absolutely one of a kind historic home - it ended up being the very best part of our trip. The housekeeper was lovely, the breakfast and decor are thoughtful and elegant.
-
Beautiful historical home full of antiques, great location for walking and enjoying Salem. Would stay again. Loved the chocolate muffins and quiche one morning.

One of the most historic places you can stay in Salem and they really play to that strength! Beautifully decorated and little surprises around every corner. Sophistically quirky and eclectic. Highly recommend. It was a shared bathroom bed-and-breakfast but never once was that an issue or awkward. Everything was kept extremely clean, and I never even heard our neighbors.

This Daniels House experience has FAR exceeded our expectation. You must book here! My wife and I had a late July getaway in Salem for 4 days, with three nights in the Daniels Great Room. The Daniels House was absolutely PERFECT location. LISTEN!!!! My wife and I did it all - Witch Museum, House of Seven Gables, the extensive Essex Street Pedestrian walking mall, Pickering Wharf, multiple history museums, all the historic buildings, Pirate museums, Salem Museum of Torture, Charter Street Cemetary, great food, and on and on - EVERYTHING is no more than a 10 minute walk from The Daniels House!!!!! Our vehicle barely moved! This couldn’t be more perfect!!! I think the other rooms in Daniels House get a parking pass for right out front…. But if you book The Great Room like we did, you get a private driveway parking spot … what a nice perk! The room?? The Great Room??? AMAZING! Trust us - The historical feel and vibe from the room cannot be explained. The house dates to the 1600’s and Patrick and Adele have done a phenomenal job of preserving that ‘period feel’. The whole house deserves a careful walkthrough itself - it is full of artifacts and pictures and crafts and wares and charming period nostalgia all throughout. The Daniels house is super clean, tidy, and very authentically original …. We appreciated every subtle creak spoken by a floorboard or stair step. Listen - that’s not a feigned flaw…. I’m describing the treasure feel of the house! Call it odd… but my wife and I loved walking in the Great Room barefoot. Everything was clean and well preserved original. Even stepping up into the overly large private bathroom…. If you close your eyes and slowly inhale, you can just imagine the tales these floors and walls could tell! Another subtle nuance - the stairs in the house. You can see and appreciate the lovely subtle texture of 100+ years of use where countless folks have gone up or down them. Snap back modern - Good A/C in the Great Room.

Also - the Continental Breakfast was more than we expected! Beyond a few kinds of breakfast bread and a toaster, there was also whipped cream cheese, hard-boiled eggs, and a couple types of fresh fruit. We were very pleased. There were only a couple drawbacks (which would NOT keep me from recommending the experience): As no one works a front desk, you have to repeatedly call to ask questions or store your luggage, etc. Even the ability to text - rather than call - the staff would make this easier. The shared bathroom on the 3rd floor was adorable, but the ceiling is precisely 6 feet. The shower is in a beautiful old claw-foot tub a few inches off the floor. The showerhead is suspended a few inches from the ceiling. And you're surrounded only by a shower curtain - without shelves or other conveniences. If you're over 5 foot 5, showering is a bit of a challenging, hunched over affair.
