Reviews
-
Very charming historic hotel but nicely modernized for comfort without losing its character. Very convenient to all the downtown Salem points of interest.
-
Beautiful hotel with a perfect location, so many thoughtful amenities, terrific restaurant options, and lots of amazing history. Every staffer we interacted with was friendly and helpful. We loved staying at the Hawthorne

It's an older hotel but very nice and attentive staff. They also clean your room daily which is a nice reset. My room was small but had everything I needed and was located in a great spot. I would stay again.

Historic hotel right in the heart of Salem.

Beautiful historical hotel! :)

This was the perfect place to stay on our first trip to Salem. An historic, beautiful and charming hotel located within walking distance to shops, restaurants and historical sights, we would absolutely stay here again.

Excellent location. Beautiful old hotel. Staff were very friendly and professional.

Close to many of the attractions. The restaurant was nice, the food was delicious, and the staff in the restaurant were amazing. The front desk staff wasn’t friendly. We booked two rooms and were given keys for one. I had to show that we had booked two rooms because they argued that we had only booked one. They found the full reservation and we got both of our rooms, but the front desk attendant wasn’t apologetic or kind in any way. I felt like I had imposed on her. We paid for a fold away bed which was never delivered, and then we had to ask for a refund which they did not want to provide, but eventually did when we proved we never got the bed. We booked a stay because the hotel is known for its library. The library was closed for renovations and we never received a notification. They wouldn’t let even have a quick look.

This is the second time we’ve stayed at the Hawthorne. Our room was clean and bedding was great. The Tavern had an excellent meal. We very much enjoyed our time.

We travel with our two dogs and if that's you too, this is a great hotel. The staff was so nice and the room was clean. We watched soccer at the Tavern and the food was good. Coffee in the lobby was a huge plus!
-
Very cool old hotel! Loved the location, you can park your car and forget it, all is within walking distance.

The hotel was historic and pretty much what was expected. The food was good and the staff were friendly. The hotel was within walking distance of many sites. It was a nice getaway for us.

Always a great stay!

The property was very convenient to everything in Salem including the short walk to the commuter rail depot to Boston. Our room and the bathroom were very small, which was disappointing since we stayed there 5 nights. When we checked in I asked the desk attendant if we could get a bigger room and she told me I should have done this request with Expedia prior to checking in. I was ot happy with her attitude and unresponsiveness. In summary it is a great historic hotel and very convenient.
-
nice room, good location, sense of history.

Conveniently located in central area of town. Walking distance to everything. The Tavern on the property was great and the service was really great! The property is well maintained, clean & has on site parking.
-
Rooms were very small, but okay for 1 night. Shampoo and conditioner bottles were previously used and refilled.
