The Merchant

When you see a “bar” in a hotel,which was beautiful, you expect to see a bartender and beverage choices. Had we known there wasn’t either, we would have brought our own. It wasn’t really an issue because there was several across the street. Just know if you want to enjoy a cocktail on the deck, bring your own.

The Merchant is a fantastic location to stay when visiting Salem. It is in close proximity to popular sites, shopping, and restaurants. Our room was spacious and well appointed. The staff was very helpful with their suggestions as well as contacting us about an item we left behind. Would definitely stay there again!

Staff was very helpful. Location was the best. Did not move my vehicle. Walking distance to all attractions. We did see a mouse in the living room run to the kitchen.Reported to the staff and they addressed right away.

The Merchant was pure joy! Gorgeous hotel, wonderful staff, and amazingly well-appointed rooms.

Warm chocolate chip cookies waiting upon arrival. The room was spectacular. Mattress was very comfortable.

Superb property. Great location - immaculately decorated with such class and fun all rolled into one! Staff were wonderfully helpful and the kitchen area was stocked with interesting snacks and drinks. The only confusing part is where the back door is and are you just about to knock on a private home but perhaps that adds to the "whimsy" feel of the entire property. Will definitely stay there again. 10/10

The property is beautiful and well designed. The room was very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The fireplace was wonderful. They had snacks and beverages available 24/7. It’s right in the heart of downtown Salem and within walking distance to great restaurants, museums, and local landmarks. I had an excellent experience staying at The Merchant and hope to stay there again.

Beautiful finish out in a great location. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. My partner had a ghostly experience in the bathroom right after we arrived. Something lifted his cowboy hat up from behind while he was in front of the mirror. Normally, the place seemed empty. We only saw one other guest while we were there. So if you are social like we are, it was on the quiet side.

Beautiful property and super helpful front desk team! Great communication leading up to the stay, and friendly welcome. Pantry well stocked (fresh cookies!), and comfortable lounge area. Perfect location for museum, restaurants, shops, and sights. Room was clean and comfortable!

Amazing hotel. A lot of history. Part of the Salem Night Witch Tour. George Washington once stayed there.

Historic, Unique, clean, friendly staff Bed was a little too fluffy for me, but I like a firmer bed and pillow. Just a personal preference thing.

We stayed in Room #8. It was very spacious and clean. We had coffee and snacks right outside of our room. After hours check-in was clear and easy.

Loved our visit. Greeted with warm cookies, and plenty of goodies in the fridge. Yummy coffee which can be had at any time and relaxing seating area. Across the street are a mainstay of hotels of all types, so the choices were many and diverse. Rooms well appointed, and the beds are some of the best sleep offered. Parking on site makes lifre grand too !!!
