The location is what I love the most about the hotel, everything is within walking distance. This was my second stay and don’t see myself staying anywhere else.

Long lines at check-in between 4 and 6pm, with several families reporting they had been waiting for their rooms for more than an hour. Wait time in the line was about 20 minutes, and the warm lobby was teeming with people not in line, but waiting for a room to open up. Not a good start to the stay. AC did not seem able to keep up with TX heat, so it was pretty warm for the first three nights. (I saw box fans sitting in the hallways, which some people must have asked for). The fourth night was miserable -- thermostat said 82 in the room even though fan was running and temperature was set to 69. Hotel staff reported the chiller unit had been turned off (??) or reset - they ended up comping the last night for us. Exercise room must have been in the 80s as well -- total sweat fest. Maybe not a good place to stay in the summers with TX heat if their HVAC can't keep up? Housekeeping is by request only, and we requested housekeeping of the room on the third day but they didn't manage to get to us (they cleaned it on the fourth day). Lumpy pillows added to the misery, unfortunately. Management might need to review their staffing and overall property management? I had better hope for this than what it turned out to be, sadly.

Great hotel would stay again

Although it’s classified as one of San Antonio’s haunted hotels, I had no spiritual encounters😂 This hotel is beautiful, the bar is very inviting. Fabulous stay!

The hotel is historic but needs to be renovated and cleaned out there were dark spots on restroom floors.

We had a premium room on the third floor with a balcony. We choose it because it was a special weekend to celebrate. Although it was beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed the balcony overlooking Alamo Plaza, there were two major items that marred the experience somewhat. The AC never got below 76 -- night or day. The mattress was truly bad - maybe it's the one Roosevelt slept on. As a side note, housekeeping never showed up for our two-night stay. When we asked for fresh towels at the desk we were told that they "were busy." We did get towels delivered a few hours later Although it was a really fun and special weekend, I was disappointed with our longtime favorite place to stay.

The hotel and pool were beautiful. Great location! My only issue was the air conditioning. I put it on full blast and the room never cooled below 76 degrees. I got moved to a different room the second night but the same thing happened. At least the second room had a ceiling fan, which helped. I think it's just an old hotel which can't handle extreme heat. I'd go back there in the winter!

The room was very nice and clean. This hotel was perfectly located for walking around the Riverwalk, the Alamo square, and just a short walk to the Alamodome where our event was held. This was the 2nd time we have stayed there, and we will stay there again in the future.

We really like the hotel’s old fashioned architecture. Very convenient to the River Walk. Staff was pleasant.

Team communicated well. It was a nice time

The most haunting thing about this hotel was the random hairs everywhere. The staff (especially valet staff) was helpful as best as they could, but the AC was out on fourth of july weekend. it was 79 degrees in our room. the staff offered a box fan which helped but i think i should’ve been warned about the AC at check in. Also, the water in the shower did not turn off all the way (hot water) which made it super humid in the bathroom which made it even hotter. not the most pleasant hotel. wouldn’t visit again even though the location was very convenient.

The plumbing in the bathroom was disconnected and non-functional. There were no additional rooms available. This room never should have been assigned to a guest. We had to stay there with no working shower. Expedia customer service was amazing.

We stayed for 2 days and got a very good deal. When we got there the room was very hot and the ceiling was leaking so the carpet by the bathroom was soaked. I went down to tell them at about 9pm and they sent someone that just gave us a box fan for the room and he told us there was nothing they could do about the leak. He also said he didn’t know why they were selling rooms with bad air conditioning. The front desk clerk was no help either and said that there were no more rooms. The next morning the leak was fixed but the carpet was still soaked and stayed that way. The room was a little cooler with the box fan the second night. There was also no maid service for the room and I had to ask for clean towels and toilet paper. I was told that the 4th floor does not get maid service that day. I love the Menger but you have to do better with the comfort of each room. We were sweating all night and I have a child that did not sleep well.

The room seemed clean at first glance. Then we noticed the torn up carpet around the edges of the room, the dead cockroaches, and the live one the size of a mouse in the dirty bathroom (scummy tub and stained shower curtain). We asked the staff to take care of the cockroach, they said they would come, they did not. Great location though?

We got there on Friday and were supposed to stay until the following Friday, we checked out on Monday. There were no amenities (soap, shampoo, nothing) the deadbolt didn’t work, there were stains on the bedding and no curtains on the full length glass doors to the balcony. I asked for two days for soap and for the deadbolt to be fixed and for curtains. The only thing they did was hang a sheer white shower curtain over the doors. So at 6 am it was blindingly bright in the room. When I asked about housekeeping I was told they don’t do that. They only do turnovers when people leave. I would totally NOT recommend this hotel especially for almost 200$ per night.
