Kona Kai San Diego

It is Expedia that has a room listed as a deluxe king bed. Traveling with dog. Yes I got a room with king bed but it is an accessible ADA room. I don't agree with the deluxe title from Expedia

Would definitely stay here again

You really need to get a car for this location. It’s far away from mostly anywhere and the closest transportation is a 25 min walk. The pool was okay but the whole property is outdated. I was also charged 100 for food service that I never ordered. I also requested a microwave, my room didn’t have it but I was still charged. I reached out to get a refund but I haven’t heard back. This was my 5th time traveling to San Diego and wanted to try a new location. I’ll be sticking to the other hotels.

Good resort. Terrible room. Old AC unit that would not shut off. Cannot sit on the balcony because all you hear is the AC running and get the exhaust from the AC unit probably installed before I was born. Towels were rough. Room had an odd smell. Cheap laminate floors. Sliding door set up is very old and not great. ‘Bay view’ room that you cannot see the bay through the trees.

Great stay! We’ve been visiting for years and always have the best time.

Went here to celebrate my wife’s birthday and stayed two nights.This older property was well maintained. We had a clean and quiet bayside room with a balcony. The staff was great.We enjoyed pool and jacuzzi time, took a complimentary bike ride and hot sauna. My wife had a massage and the filet mignon from the onsite Vessel restaurant was to die for! The drinks were pricey, but good. Really couldn’t have asked for too much more.

Kona Kai is the best San Diego resort. We really enjoyed the private beach and the firepits. We will be going back!

The resort fee and parking add nearly $100 to the room rate, making other options in the area better options financially.

Beautiful place just only wish 400 dollar security deposit and 250 dollar fee was known to me before arrival

This property is beautiful hover just poorly staffed and managed.

I never received the prosecco that was supposed to be in our room when we arrived until I called three times. The phones didn’t work in the rooms and air conditioner was soo loud and annoying. The pools were both packed and not one chair available. Overall we were sadly disappointed.

The room I was in was not updated as were some of the other rooms at the hotel it was a little dated.

Buildings 7 and 8 have temperatures at 72 degrees and cannot be adjusted. Walls are thin plus pet friendly equals a lot of barking from a “pet friendly location” Will here all foot steps above if on the bottom floors Definitely saw rats multiple times. Outdated rooms, a lot of pretty flair being the truly broken stuff if you look close enough. Objects like water bottles and stuff dolphins are placed there to trick into milking move money out of you $35 breakfast that is hotel food Resort fees and paying to park ever night when you get there. $500 deposit onto of everything.

When you stay at Kona Kai make sure you stay on the newer side the other side is dirty lamp was so dirty smells wierd also. The suites are the way to go!

Bed could have been nicer, but on the whole everything was really nice. The grounds were immaculate. The restaurant was a little short staffed for brunch, but the evening drinks were on point!

This was our first time staying at Kona Kai. The resort did not disappoint. Room was beautiful, clean and great view. The staff from front desk, restaurant and pool friendly and accommodating. Loved they had 2 pools. One family friendly and the other 21+. Beach with fire pit was a great way to end the day. Definitely will be returning and highly recommend to family and friends.

When we arrived, I was told that our room was still not available. I was also told they would call me once the room was ready. I went back to check and a woman told me I might have to wait until 5:30pm check in is at 4 PM. My husband went back to the front desk immediately after and a gentleman immediately gave him the room key. I never received the promised phone call. I was also given a pool card so that we could wait at the bar, but the card did not work, which made the situation even more frustrating luckily the bartender which was amazing open the door for us. The best part for us were the people at the Vessel restaurant and pool bars. Another disappointment was seeing food left on top of the trash/recycling area outside overnight. It was not picked up until the following morning. For such a beautiful resort and such a special gem, these details were really disappointing. We have always loved coming here, which is why this experience was especially upsetting. Unfortunately, we are now reconsidering whether we will return in the future. I truly hope management addresses these issues because this resort has so much potential, and we would love to continue coming back.
