It is an historic building that resembles old NYC brick fire escapes. The rooms are very small, but for 100 years old, it is in great condition.

Aw3some hotel close to the marina...stayed for the 4th of July celebration on the uss midway. Easy walk to avoid traffic in car.

Really nice hotel. Beautiful historic property. Had a little problem with bathroom plug and maintance arrived immediately to resolve the issue, sent by the accommodating front desk. Close to everything. We will definitely stay again.

Wonderful staff, especially Esmeralda. Good location. Clean room but the AC was a bit loud. Very comfortable bed.

The only minus that was an issue and was discussed with others staying is the very loud air conditioners. Not sure if an updated system is allowed or not but definitely needed.

Upon check-in, they downgraded my room, but did not tell me! They are allowed to switch room spec under Expedia T&C, but did not make me aware of this until I'd been in 2 very poorly-maintained inadequate rooms. Only then did they confess that they had a room of the spec that I'd booked available. Why didn't they give me that to start with? Why weren't they upfront? Why were the first 2 rooms so shabby?

We really enjoyed the Sofia. The room was exceptionally clean and very comfortable. It was also in a great location: you can easily walk to the water, and there were lots of restaurants to choose from. We will stay there again!

The location of the property was ideal for downtown in the Gaslamp district. The staff were very helpful with getting us checked in early without any additional fees. Thank you again! The room was clean and very inviting and I loved the digital controls for the lighting throughout the room. I would highly recommend and will be staying again on our next trip to San Diego.
