Westgate Hotel

The hotel lobby is very nice and smelled great. The gym across the way with access to classes and rooftop pool/gym/track were amazing!!! The lemon water at the pool was a nice touch. The DJs at the pool during the weekend were great! The “queen” beds/bedding were very comfortable but small for 2 adults. The valet person, Michael, was friendly and helpful at all times. The location is convenient but many homeless in the vicinity. The trollies beep throughout the night so be prepared. We paid for parking every night for our car which we knew ahead of time, totally fine. One of our day guests wanted to park his motorcycle on the side of the garage and the hotel wanted to charge which was ridiculous. It barely took up any room and would be completely out the way of the valet. The hotel shouldn’t charge, or perhaps a low day rate, for motorcycles or scooters, not a full car rate when valet wouldn’t need to touch or move. The overall staff weren’t very friendly. Also, the hotel should provide water/coffee in the lobby.

The spa and the gym were 1st class. It may be the best hotel gym that I ever saw. Well maintained—steam and sauna. Wonderful rooftop pool and bar

The staff was great. What I found somewhat disturbing, but not a reason to not come back, was that the carpet in the hallways and rooms was dirty or old, the faucets in the bathroom were leaking and the sliding door separating the shower and toilet did not work and could not be closed. Other than that it is a lovely hotel.

Great hotel. Short walk to the Gaslamp District and Little Italy. Very clean. Nice pool. Awesome staff. Well be back!

I was disappointed because the front desk told us that we have breakfast included, but whenever we went for the breakfast, they said we need to pay for that.

We were very happy with our stay, staff was very friendly and helpful. We did not appreciate being charged for parking.

Exceptional

When we arrived, the restaurant was closed and only the bar menu was available. The next morning, I repeatedly tried to reach room service with no answer. Even after getting help from housekeeping, we still had difficulty reaching guest services. When we finally placed a simple breakfast order for cereal and skim milk, we were called back and told they did not have cereal available. For a room costing over $450 per night, I also expected better amenities. The room had only one coffee mug and two paper cups. No cups for water. The hotel has character and a great location, but the lack of responsiveness and limited service did not match the price.

The staff was absolutely lovely and the property (inside)looks like something in Paris built in another time even though it was built in the 70s . It's gorgeous. It's nice to walk in and hear a harpist. They have a beautiful afternoon tea on the weekends and Bonne Vie is top notch .

Our room was very clean and we only have a chance to stay tonight but enjoyed the pool on the third floor roof both nights. Being in the heart of downtown, you are close to everything. My Husband I cannot wait to return. Yes, there is a trolley nearby but the sound is not bad at all. It did not bother us one bit when we slept. I just want to bring that up since someone else I mentioned there is a train nearby and they couldn’t sleep. After having the opportunity to stay at this hotel for a couple of nights, we realize that that previous review was a bit dramatic, saying the train kept them up all night. We were expecting something crazy, but the trolley was nothing to be concerned about. We are working on our next booking already.

I really enjoyed the stay literally five out of five stars. Their happy hour was really good. Their gym facility was really good. The only downside was if you’re gonna have an outdoor rooftop gym, cover the equipment at the end of the day and clean it before it opens because all the equipment was filthy, which is normal if it’s gonna be outside but at least clean it the other downside was their Wi-Fi. It wasn’t reaching my room but aside from that, it is a really nice property with wonderful staff

It was an okay hotel for a last minute stay, the room smelled “old”. Also our room was equipped with an AC that had a scroll wheel on the wall which took awhile for the room to cool and combined with San Diego humidity, felt like forever to feel a difference. I don’t think I’d come back unless another last minute trip came up
