Located in the lively North Beach Little Italy district, this San Francisco hostel is just minutes walking to the renowned neighborhoods like Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf and Union Square. Shared dormitory accommodations is offered by Green Tortoise Hostels San Francisco. Our Grand Ballroom is the heart of the hostel where people make friends and unforgettable memories. The ballroom, where musicians are always invited to play, has a pool table, ping pong table, books, games, and complimentary tea throughout the day. We also have a new designated quiet "Digital Nomad work space" We provide free Wi-Fi. Just off of the ballroom we have a fully equipped kitchen that is open 24 hours a day for you to use. We provide a guest fridge for you to store food, liquor, whatever you want! Find a self guided neighborhood discount tour at the desk for all the best local businesses! A free daily breakfast consisting of oatmeal, yogurt, bagels, fresh fruit and orange juice is served every morning at this hostel. Coffee and tea are available all day. We offer nightly Events here, Some are themed pub crawls like murder mysteries, or discounted Dinners at local restaurants. You'll even find stuff here in our ballroom like Free in house Dinners and Live music brought into the hostel. A 24-hour reception is offered to guests of this hostel. Other facilities offered include a discounts on local tours, luggage storage, Laundry area, and a Sauna! Transportation from airports are a breeze with our BART public transportation train stop only a 15 minute walk from our location or a quick 5 minute cab ride. We have no onsite parking, but have several parking garages we can recommend after you use our loading zone out front, to drop off your luggage. Ferry Building shops, farmers market and restaurants are 0.6 mi away from Green Tortoise Hostel. Fisherman's Wharf attractions are 20 minutes’ walk away. Please note that we do not offer on-site parking. Guests may use the loading zone in front of the hostel to drop off their luggage before parking. We can recommend several nearby parking garages, including a local garage that offers discounted parking. Guests will receive the parking coupon and instructions upon check-in at the front desk.

It was walkable to important areas in the city center. The shared beds felt like they were a little too small.

The food was great. The bed was great...a little bit warm but not too bad with fans running. I liked having a sink in the room. The room was also off the street so no city noises to keep me awake. The location was perfect. Close to City Lights Books and Caffe Trieste, my favorite places in this part SF. Thank you for a great stay.

It was actully really fine to be there. I enjoyed it :) It was indeed a bit funny to see small ants climbing all over the room and in the bathroom:D

the location is amazing, near to the bars, restaurants, little Italy and Chinatown. the breakfast is good (bagels, cream cheese, fruits, yogurt, juice, coffee, milk). the lockers are great. the showers are good. the dorms don't have AC, the building is old, but very charming.

The biggest pluses were definitely the location, the staff, and the breakfast, which was quite decent. As for the downsides: the photos and reality were somewhat different. The room smelled bad, and the bed and mattress were very uncomfortable. In the end, the total price of this hostel was about the same as many hotels, and it was absolutely not worth it. The condition of the building wasn’t particularly good either. The view from the window was of pipes and walls. We were also very unlucky with our neighbors, as they had absolutely no consideration for other guests and were making noise at 5 a.m. and so on. Overall, I honestly don’t understand how this hostel received such good reviews, but I was extremely disappointed.

I love the common room, the breakfast and the atmosphere here. 12 out of 10! Not applicable, really. Just that strange situation with getting a candy bar and the machine eating my money not giving the food in return. Kindly the staff helped out, so no worries.
