Hotel North Beach

I found bedbugs on the first night of my stay. Apart from that: no sound isolation from the window to the street, sketchy tenants, smelly rooms.

It’s more like a home for people. Shared bathrooms. I ended up leaving and didn’t even stay there. Just didn’t look good.

Its an old style hotel, really cool as long as you have low expectations. Its a gem and low price for the location.

We stayed in 2 rooms. The first room had bed bugs. The bed was covered in crusty fragments that we hoped was just the previous occupant’s boogers. Somebody else’s hair was also all over the bed. The floor was very sticky. We saw a bug crawling on the sheets. It matched the description of a bed bug and when we killed it, it was full of blood. After we found the bed bug, we requested another room. The person at the front desk gave us another room without issue, which was nice. However, they showed zero surprise when we told them that we found a bed bug. I suspect this is a common occurrence at this hotel. I’m not exaggerating when I say that we walked into the second room and immediately saw a cockroach on the wall. We saw multiple other cockroaches over the course of our stay. Perks of the new room: no bed bugs (that we found). No mysterious crusty stuff on the blankets. No hairs that did not belong to us on the sheets. Cons: floor was very sticky and dirty. Cockroaches were crawling around the room. We are in the process of a very thorough decontamination procedure now that we’re home. The entire stay just made me feel dirty. And somehow this hotel cost over $100 a night, base rate. 0/5 stay

I want to emphasize that everyone else we interacted with was great, but the overnight front desk experience was disappointing and really affected our stay.

Location was perfect for me. Quiet room without frills like gym, pool, room service was exactly what I needed

Big shout out to Sean, who's always helpful and kind, thank you! The room was clean and so were the bathrooms. There was a mean dog on the elevator, I had to take the stairs and I'm elderly and use a cane.

However, the property itself needs much better maintenance. There was an unusual and unpleasant smell in different areas of the hotel, including inside my room. The shared restrooms and shower areas were also not maintained properly, and there was a noticeable bad smell coming from them. Cleanliness and ventilation in the common areas definitely need improvement. Because of the overall condition and smell, I did not feel comfortable spending much time at the property. During my two-night stay, I mainly used the room just for sleeping and spent most of my time outside. Overall, the location is good and the basic room amenities are acceptable, but the cleanliness, shared facilities, odor, and general maintenance of the property need significant improvement.
